Re: Jp-8000 vs Blofeld vs An1x vs Elka EK-22

If you love VA's, try the Waldorf Q if you haven't already.

I had it as well as the AN1x and JP-8000, and its sound spoke to me in a way neither could. It is substantially different from the AN1x sound, more closely related to the JP-8000, but a thing of beauty nonetheless.

Re: Re-capped the power board on my OB-8, now frozen! Help

I can check with the DVM but as I mentioned before, at the connectors I and J that link up to the voice boards, I'm getting a solid 15/5v. I'm talking about measuring the values with the meter on an AC setting, not DC. Anything over 15 mV of ripple on the DC lines, when measuring them in AC, is a r...

Re: Re-capped the power board on my OB-8, now frozen! Help

Have you checked the ripple and overall integrity of the DC lines with an oscilloscope?

Maybe you got a bad cap out of the box or lost one leg of a rectifier.

At a minimum, click your DVM to AC and see what you get.

Re: Can one clean a Space Echo with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol?

The other 9% is water, so while you probably won't do any damage, I'd try to get the real thing.

I found Tape Head Cleaner in a little red bottle at Walmart a couple of years ago if that helps, or a Radio Shack should have some. Maybe ask a pharmacist at CVS or somewhere.

Re: Question for Roland JD-800 owners

I've spent countless hours scouring datasheets and sites for either these Panasonic EWA-type linear pots or their replacements. AFAICT, replacements are simply unavailable. I found one guy that had some with a metal lever that I dismantled and reassembled to make a new pot for my volume control, but...

Re: Korg Wavestation Firmware OS v3.19

Version update works, thanks!

Had to cobble-together a contraption to swap out the Pin 2 and Pin 24 assignments on the odd Fujitsu MBM27C1000 chips, but in the end it worked fine.

I erased and reprogrammed the chips from the machine so I don't have any spares, sorry!

Thanks again!

Re: Dual problems with SY77

Fixed it.

The solder joints for the 5 VDC header pins from the power supply board going to the DM1 board needed reflowing. Solder-Wicked out the old and flowed-in new.

Were cracked in the usual manner from age. Needed a 10x glass to see it though.

Re: Matching scales and patches

I think you mean different keys, not different scales. Scales are just the theoretical shifts between notes for different musical modes, and the relationship between notes (whole steps and half-steps) don't change when going from key to key. And yes, certain instruments excel when played in certain ...

Re: Jarre on Electronic Music and America misunderstanding:

I think what he meant was not that the US didn't have any influence on the genre, but that it wasn't a purely indigenous creation by Americans like jazz and the blues. Although it could be argued that neither of those were exactly pure American creations either, but they certainly came to life when ...
