Re: Jarre on Electronic Music and America misunderstanding:

I think what he meant was not that the US didn't have any influence on the genre, but that it wasn't a purely indigenous creation by Americans like jazz and the blues. Although it could be argued that neither of those were exactly pure American creations either, but they certainly came to life when ...

Re: Looking for used (maybe vintage) line mixer recommendati

The Yamaha MV802 is a stereo line mixer developed for the TX816. It's got a couple of aux sends and returns; a basic little rack unit that's pretty clean. It has pad switches and a foot controller jack for controlling the output volume with a Yamaha FC7 pedal. I have one; completely dismantled it an...

Prophet T8 Owners

There are two microprocessors inside the Prophet T8, a Z80B and a Z8002AD1. Both are SGS brand (Italy). Back in June, the Z80B chip in mine died. A replacement was cheap and easy; they're very popular and Zilog is still making them. Got me to thinking though about the Z8002AD1. Did internet work and...

Re: Yamaha Reface

He's joking guys...

The image was worked up by a person offering up an open suggestion/plea to Yamaha as to what they should do next with the Reface series.

Would be a nice thing though. Would make me look a bit harder at a Reface.

Re: New Roland ANALOG/DIGITAL JD-XA "Flagship" Synth -NAMM 2

So.. nobody here bothered with this hot mess in the end eh? I almost pulled the trigger (several times) on the JD-Xa and Prophet 6 both, but in the end held off. Mostly I didn't like the lack of polyphony and short keyboard length on both units. Analog must be a real expensive b***h to implement. I...

Re: Camel Audio closes it's doors

Yeah, when I moved from XP to Win 7 a year or so ago I left the soft synths behind. I know people talk about how the VST integration is a time saver, but I find the opposite to be true. The time spent trying to get everything to work together and keep up with changes (especially after an OS change) ...

Yes - Dual Taurus III Pedals

Saw Yes last night, a most enjoyable show. For the encore they did Starship Trooper. At the very end, both Geoff Downes and Billy Sherwood began mashing away on their Taurus III's in unison. It was about that time the sound guy decided "People, it's time for a little bass" and cranked the s**t out o...

Re: Sweet spot synths

I played a lot of synths and after many years afforded an OB-Xa. That (properly calibrated) thing is just one giant sweet spot. Woof. It needs effects to make it truly useful of course as with all the old gear, but damn. It's hard to find any patch on the thing that sounds bad , whatever that subjec...

Re: Prophet T8 Dead [Solved]

Yes, bought a new processor and a spare for $17 USD including shipping. Who says vintage synths are expensive to maintain! Seriously though, I can't imagine owning these old dinosaurs without being able to work on them, especially if you're in the boonies with no techs around. I cut my teeth on old ...

Prophet T8 Dead [Solved]

Info for the archives: My Sequential Circuits Prophet T8 died yesterday. Debugging session found failure of the Z80B Main microprocessor. The address lines were working fine, but all the digital lines were very distorted and pseudo-stuck in the high state. Info on the chip face: SGS Z8400BB1 Z80BCPU...
