Re: Yamaha An1x vs Korg R3 for pads

You might think about a Korg WaveStation for massive, evolving pads.

Woof.

Re: Old Roland Samplers (S Series, W-30, etc)

Lots of nice technical and model info in the thread. I've had lots of Roland gear, but never stuck my toe into the sampler waters. Is there any reason to be using these machines these days other than a maybe having a few old sounds you want to retreive? I've never played around much with sampling, b...

Mine had exactly the same problem. I think they overheat and crack. See here for what I did. Has part numbers, etc. https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-electronic-music-production/783773-roland-d70-backlight.html?highlight=d+70 Oh yeah, and I have information on the original...

Re: which analog synths complement your modern digital setup

I typically turn to the MKS-70 in my mostly-digital studio.

I don't have any mono's though, if that's part of your equation. Strictly a poly guy.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Re: Help with Midi-Ox settings for old synths

I've found myself turning to SendSx more frequently than Midi-Ox these days as well. It's simple, but effective and easy to understand. The patchbay routing and nomenclature in Midi-Ox gets confusing. I've also had it totally hang the midi system a few times requiring not just a PC reboot but a powe...

Re: Jupiter-8 minor issues (autotune, sync, env keyfollow)

The Texas Instruments 4000-series IC problem is just the old originals. Manufacturing techniques have changed significantly since then, I wouldn't hesitate to put in a current-manufacture TI chip.

Yes, sorry was looking at the DW8000 schematic, duh.

Have been dealing with the DW8000 lately and my brain morphed your post into that synth, sorry.

Re: Korg DW6000 Power Problem

Got a used Korg DW-6000 that keeps blowing fuses. Isolated issue, by disconnecting boards, and then reconnecting one at a time, to the KLM 660-1 board. I don't know that much about electronics, but enough to operate a soldering iron (ok with a hardhat), and a multimeter. Any ideas of what component...

Re: Korg DW6000 Power Problem

I'd first look at the capacitors on the power rails, especially if they are tantalum caps like on the old Yamaha synths.

Re: MIDI problem

Midi operates on Channels. A single midi port uses and has available 16 different channels so you can daisy-chain synths one after another using the Thru port on the back of synths. That way you can send information from the computer to more than one synth and they don't get confused as to which mid...

Re: how to vintage your synth

The most interesting thing for me is the is the range of responses, from "that's funny" to "that's immoral". We're a diverse bunch to all have the same love of vintage synths. To me, it doesn't matter if it had been a mint Jupiter-8 or a DX7, it's a moronic premise with no redeeming qualities, artis...
