Re: What Synth have you gigged the most?

The Juno 60 in this picture of me saw a good 7 years of touring. It was eventually stolen, and the Chroma Polaris on my right blew up into blue smoke on stage. Awkwardddd.

Re: MIDI Patch Bays and SYSEX Messages in OS X?

As for Sysex, I've had trouble finding something that will send short Sysex messages, or allow me to enter and send Sysex. Cubase is impenetrable and utter c**p, Sysex Librarian will not allow you to enter code to send, and doesn't like very short messages. I gave up in the end. I gave up as well i...

Re: noise problems on my juno60

Hmm, if it doesn't annoy you I'm guessing something different is happening with yours. I think this would be annoying to anyone trying to record with it. It's definitely not just the natural noisiness of the juno. I'm not daisy chaining powerstrips or anything like that. I've tried the L, M, and H ...

Re: Thoughts on the Alesis Ion

I was pretty let down with this synth to be honest. I was really hoping it'd be awesome, and it sounds pretty good through headphones but once live / amplified / recorded against other synths it lacked any distinct character or depth. Very powerful on paper but for all the effects, multitimbrality, ...

Re: noise problems on my juno60

My Juno occasionally does the same thing - I find these are the remedies: One important thing to check - you aren't daisy chaining powerstrips or surge protectors are you? These can boost the noise in a very undesirable way. Also, check the output on the back of the Juno, place it on "M" instead of ...

Re: how do u record ur drum machine?

I run a direct out of my Vermona and R8 mixed together through a pre, then also a room mic of the drum machines pumped through two 18"'s and two 10"'s and horn with a bout 2500 Watts or so. I then line up the sound waves in ableton to keep everything in phase. I think a room mic + big speakers does ...

BCR2000 vs. Novation RemoteSL vs. CME Bitstream3x vs. Knobby

A MIDI Controller Shootout! Sorry software synth dudes - this shootout is for the best MIDI controller for hardware/rackmount synths. Some requirements I imagine a lot of us at VSE have are the following: 1. Ability to control Hardware Synths 2. Ability to edit/send Sysex Strings/Other advanced MIDI...

Re: MIDI Patch Bays and SYSEX Messages in OS X?

On the BCR2000, was the difficulty programming the knobs or in the dependability once programmed? Concerning sysex, the buttons and knobs are programmed with a computer editor only (3rd party - Behringer editor blows). Without a computer, the BCR boasts a 'learn' mode, which does understand sysex, ...

Re: MIDI Patch Bays and SYSEX Messages in OS X?

The only midi controller I know of (which does not include everything by any means), that does not need a computer editor to input sysex strings, is the novation SL. The BCR2000 has the ability to 'learn' sysex strings but I've not had great success with that. It works sometimes. You can program wi...

Re: DCB to MIDI interfaces

So I just PM'd Altitude - but I'm wondering... Anybody have any hints on getting the CHD MDCB2v2 set up properly using OS X?

I'm having a h**l of a time getting the sysex code to the actual device. :(

I'm debating setting up a BCR2000 as a control surface.... Hmmm...

MIDI Patch Bays and SYSEX Messages in OS X?

Hey - So I've been working on a MIDI Setup - I'm trying to find a MIDI Patch Bay that I can configure with OS X 10.5.7? I have a Midisport 8x8/s but it doesn't seem to work... at all. Additionally, I've been trying to send sysex code (message) to a device (through a different interface), but the onl...

Re: Prophet 600 vs Prophet 08

I think the question that no one has really addressed is what they actually use their synth for. Those who have Prophet 600s and like using them - what kind of music do you use them for and what parts? Likewise 08 users - what do you use them for? I use my 600 for wormy bass squiggles, huge alien s...

Re: Prophet 600 vs Prophet 08

I'm sure you have reasons for wanting VCOs over DCOs, but I think you're limiting yourself unnecessarily. Yeah... That is totally NOT true. I had to sell my Alesis ION and am thinking about selling my Juno 60 because DCO's (and Analog Modeling) do NOT cut it. Not being elitist or anything, I realll...

Re: Recommend a Mixer/Interface??????

I just picked up an M-AUDIO Fastrack 8R. 8 ins and 8 outs plus MIDI over USB 2.0. As far as a hardware interface goes, it is great! I use to record my gear (see list) to Ableton Live. If you are using Ableton (or any digital recording software/hardware) what is most important is not the mix going in...
