Re: YAMAHA SU-700 floppy

Along with most other Yamaha gear, I think it just uses a standard computer floppy drive. As for replacing the Floppy with a Zip, you can get internal zip drives but you will need the SCSI expansion for your sampler... If it's the same one that is used in the EX7/5/5R (check which one it is, the boa...

Re: Best HQ Cassettes to use w/ TASCAM 424 Mk2?

Yeah, shorter tapes like 60 mins or less. I used to use type IV tapes religiously, very low noise in comparison to the other types. Avoid type I (they're shite), type II are OK if you can't find type IV... Type III are obsolete I think. Type IV are the most expensive but they're worth it IMO.

Probably the biggest one of the moment is Omnisphere.

Check it out at the Spectrasonics website.

Re: Yamaha SY-99 Pitch bend potentiometer broken.

As far as I know, there is nothing like Yamaha 24x7 in the UK, it's just Yamaha UK. You can find their contact details on this page . I'd suggest calling them instead of email... Unfortunately, the number on that page is an '0870' number which will either be unavailable outside the UK or may cost an...

Re: Looking to buy my first synthesizer, trying for under 600...

I nearly mentioned the Alesis Fusion but thought it may be too expensive. And if you're after polyphony, there's few other synths that can even come close. Upto 272 for the sample based engine, 240 for FM, 140 for VA and I think 70 and 48 for each of the PM engines. Oh, and ignore some some of the c...

Re: Looking to buy my first synthesizer, trying for under 600...

I sometimes find the 16 note polyphony of my Andromeda a bit restrictive. But I have plenty of other synths to make up the shortfall. I hate to be the first to say it but there are loads of ROMplers out there in the second hand market which have far higher polyphony than any of the VAs mentioned so ...

Don't they?!

I do!

And if people didn't complain, then there wouldn't be a market for Motu's Volta which basically makes modulars programmable... And let's face it, there's been quite a buzz about Volta, 'scuse the pun!

Re: Should i get a Juno G for 1/2 price if I have the Fantom G?

Not that I have much experience with either of those but from what I have read, the Juno-G has a slightly cut back implementation of the Fantom X synth engine but shares many of it's sounds. I would expect many or all of those sounds to be in the Fantom G. Personally speaking, if I had a Fantom G I ...

Try getting in touch with your regional Yamaha distributor, see if they can help or tell of a company who can... Yamaha UK are very good in that respect.

Re: A Valve Polysynth in a Rack with MIDI Anyone?

BTW Shreddie, the Wretch was originally offered with onboard MIDI-CV control (still no presets), it might still be available as a custom option. I thought that was only on the prototype? Hmmm. Something like the Wretch is a fair way off for me though, there are many other things that I will be spen...
