Re: Is there any money in the sample DVD business?

My goal would be to provide a wide variety of timbres and have support for (some) older hardware samplers (such that individual timbres be ~16MB or less). That's pretty much my plan! BTW, do you have a link to your site? I wasn't referring to loop ticks (sound designers doing that should be pulled ...

Re: What was your first synth?

As I just posted elsewhere on this forum, a Yamaha PSS-480. At first glance, with it's 100 rhythm accompaniments, built in speakers and little keys it looks like a crappy home keyboard. But it's a 2 op FM synth with several waveforms. It gives you 8 parameters to play with from the front panel (not ...

Re: New Andromedas are here

In my case (see my sig) I have 2 workstations...one actual, and one VA. The huge numbers of sounds are one aspect, but the availability of sick noises from my plethora of softies means that the next hardware synth I get will just be a replacement of one of mine that will eventually die. I'm kinda s...

Re: Is there any money in the sample DVD business?

I know a guy who's a sound designer, not really a big name but he's been in the business for years and is well respected. I'll repeat some of what he has said elsewhere. There isn't a great deal of money in it anymore unless you're doing a large and detailed library... Which unfortunately requires a...

Re: New Andromedas are here

Gotta agree...haven't bought a hardware synth in 3 years. Had GAS for the Solaris, but it's been peptobismol'd by circumstance and the ever-present reminder that once GAS is indulged, one's music doesn't take a quantum leap forward. Well, it's the law of diminishing returns isn't it. If, for exampl...

Re: New MFB-522 drum machine, now with more cowbell..

My Synth Lite II and probably all the other MFB products with a coloured panel (mis)use a PCB sheet for one. It's a great way of geting a cheap but smart panel, these PCB companies are geared up for automated screen printing and drilling. They do look a little utilitarian but it's all a trade off, ...

I use Download helper on Firefox. It works a treat!

You'll need a player capable of playing flash files for youtube vids though. I use VLC.

Re: New MFB-522 drum machine, now with more cowbell..

Honestly, how much more would it cost for MFB to put their synths in a metal casing instead of plastic? People can claim that the build quality isn't bad, but plastic doesn't usually hold up well over the long run. It's all down to economics, some people would be happy to pay for better build quali...

Re: New Andromedas are here

I guess I'm kinda similar to you Bitexion. Like you, I love the limitations. Many (10+) years ago, I had a few cracks and used software off magazine cover CDs, they were OK at the time I guess but about 3 years ago when I got back into music I bought a PC and loaded it with (paid for) soft synths on...

Buy both?!

I would if I could but it won't be for a long time.

I'm not a particular fan of soft synths either... Not any more.
