Re: EII and Fairlight libraries in Wav?

There was a thread about Fairlight libraries over at the sound on sound forums a week or two back but it seems to have dissappeared.... It's a shame as there was a good couple of links to libraries there... I'll see if I can ask someone for you.

Re: Any latency with hardware mixers + effects etc?

My question is do hardware mixers and effects units also induce latency? There must be some delay as the hardware effect box has to process the incoming audio, before it then sends it back to the mixer. With digital yes, but only a tiny amount, with analogue, no. Or when using hardware mixers, effe...

Re: What was the Deepest Synth you ever bought?

Actually, I believe it's the VA synth from the Alesis Fusion - which sounds and is quite different than the ion/micron/miniak (but is still quite deep!). Yup, that's correct... It's good and very flexible but sounds a tad brittle imo... It's a shame the filters aren't as good as they could/should b...

Re: tip of 1/4" cable broke off & stuck...

Had the same happen (tip broke off in one of his compressors) when I was helping a mate set up for a music festival... A trip to the chemists for the finest tweezers I could find, about 5 minutes poking around in the socket with the tweezers and a very fine screwdriver and I managed to get the bugge...

Re: Sample rate - looping single cycle analog waveforms for

or just use 2 cycles instead of 1.. takes up more space.. but also, there might be changes in the sound output occuring over periods longer than a single cycle that give the synth it's character That is very true as it happens... For this kind of thing, the longer the sample the better... I'm curre...

Re: Sample rate - looping single cycle analog waveforms for

I tried this sample rate but it is almost impossible to make a perfect loop where the sample points hit the zero crossing. Often at higher freq's the zero crossing will land between two sample points. That is to be expected. Your sample rate is fixed at a specific frequency but the frequency of you...

Re: sampling-groovebox-sequencer-workstation

I can't answer all of your questions but here goes... 2. Are Akai MPC- or Roland MC-Boxes the better deal? Why? Define "better deal"... What do you need from it/them? 3. Where lies the power of looper-pedals? Fast, on-the-fly, live looping. 4. Is time-stretching and bpm-matching of sampled loops a s...

Re: Uh, how come I can't get midi to work with my ESQ-1 anym

It's unlikely that you've actually fried the cable but quite possible that you've bent a pin or broken a conductor... Cables do eventually die after lots of use, especially if you're chopping and changing from one unit to another all the time, all that flexing does fatigue and eventually break the c...

Re: Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard : most underrated of 2009

The only reason I wasn't keen on the Blofeld was because of the lack of knobs so I was waiting for the Stromberg... Which sadly seems to have dissappeared from the Waldorf site. However, since many of you have said how easy it is to program... I might take the plunge when I have the pennies......

Just loops? It's an autolooping thing and I've not tried it on rhythmic stuff but EndlessWAV is simple and pretty good.

Re: The appearance of a synth Manual

Both paper and PDF have their virtues but I prefer paper manuals I can sit and read in comfort... Detailed manuals which dispense with the pleasantries and get right down to the technical stuff are my fave kind, ideally with a few illustrations of signal flow etc... I don't tend to get on with manua...

Re: Any need for VA gear still??

Part of what I also like is the thinner, more stable (unless programmed otherwise) tone as compared and contrasted with a polyphonic analog. I often find a poly analog is too big for the overall mix - not saying for anyone else, just me and my ear. That little-bit-smaller tone works well when I am ...

Re: Any need for VA gear still??

but I also like the instability and 'life' of true analogue. With the right digital synth (e.g. with the right functionality) this instability can be programmed. I know you can do that but it never seems quite the same somehow... Besides I was more talking about the slight variances in all parts of...
