Re: Synths with Easter Eggs

Just remembered another one with the Fusion, though it's more of a bug than an easter egg... If you push the input to one of the reverbs high enough so that it clips, the reverb totally messes up in a bad way... But turn it back down and it changes again into a really cool kinda glitch/distortion ef...

Re: The SECOND thing you do when getting a new synth...

Sleep with it. Back when I was ill I could be bedridden for weeks at a time on and off so would do that quite regularly... The Fusion or EX7 were almost always set up on or next to my bed... I even had a threesome on a few occasions. Without them set up close to me and not being able to do anything...

Re: how does the look of a synth affect your perception

Personally, I don't like anything with blue LEDs, blue screens (I find blue lights terribly horrible to spent time in front of for any length of time), wooden side panels (it looks c**p in car dashboards too), anthing in garish colours (Mopho :vomit: ) or anything with the Moog logo. I do like stuff...

Re: Any need for VA gear still??

Asking if there's any need for VA gear is like asking if there's any reason to get one synth over another that's similar. All will have their merits. Doesn't really matter, they're just synths with different sounds, just choose which one suits your needs/taste... Or choose several, all of different ...

Re: Synths with Easter Eggs

It's a bit of a boring one but on the Alesis Fusion, under one of the main menus (global I think) there is one soft button which doesn't have a tag... However, pressing it will display all the designers and engineers who worked on the synth in scrolling fashion... Personally, I'd rather have had Pong!

You may not find those you are looking for but Hollowsun is a bit of a vintage synth specialist.

Re: Properly storing synths?

Dessicant = Silica Gel... You often find those tiny sachets bunged in the boxes of new electronics but you can buy big bags fairly cheaply... Just put a small handful in a muslin (or breathable fabric) bag, bung it in your box, job done. Oh, and it can be dried out in an oven but try and keep it at ...

Re: How often have you accidentally erased a "good" program

I've lost stuff in the past but never worry about that anymore as everything has at least two backups these days... I live amongst a menagerie of zip disks, SD cards, floppies and hard drive caddies.

Re: need some advice choosing a rack sampler w/ criteria

what i'm wondering at this point is 'in what situation would you choose something like the akai s6000 or 5000 over the asr-10, Most. the Akai S5/6000's are superior in almost every respect... More memory, more storage, more poly, better display, superb graphical editing etc... There's a reason why ...

Re: need some advice choosing a rack sampler w/ criteria

I know you said you wanted a rackmount but most of Akai's MPC series cover what you need... And come with pretty handy sequencers to boot. Be sure to check the features though as they all vary somewhat. Failing that, go for an Akai S series or an Emu. Yamaha samplers are well specified but ain't the...

Re: What was the Deepest Synth you ever bought?

All the synths I own are mentioned in this thread... In order of depth from least deep to most... In terms of scope for creating sounds... Yamaha FS1R... Impenetrable interface but not the deepest synth. Yamaha EX7 (baby brother of the EX5 someone mentioned). Certainly interesting and it's possible ...

Re: what's the ugliest synth you can come up with?

IMO this is one of the worst and less atractive designs on a good synth: http://www.codevinyl.com/images/fusion8HD.jpg Did they paid somebody to make the ugliest synth ever? It looks like a keyboard arranger or a plastic toy. It seems they felt inspired by the dash of the hyundai Elantra..... contr...

Re: Hardware Sampler with the most hands-on interface?

Maybe, but the interface on the various MPCs looks pretty limited. I want something which has dedicated knobs for things like the envelopes, oscillator tuning, filter cutoff, resonance, LFO waveform, LFO rate, etc. Unless I'm missing something, the MPCs (in fact, most samplers in general) don't hav...

Re: Hardware Sampler with the most hands-on interface?

I basically want a synthesizer which can use sampled sounds as oscillators (like the Nord Wave and the V Synth). All sampler synths do that... You mean looped waveforms and the like yeah? So, the various "beat box" samplers that have been mentioned so far probably won't work for me. Have another lo...
