Re: advice price for Roland Jupiter 8?

Prices have peaked and mostly only collectors who will let them collect dust on a shelf and brag about it on the web are buying the most sought after synths, including this one. It excels at natural, organic tones that no sampler or physical modeling software could faithfully recreate, is a synth p...

Re: Dave Smith Modular

Completely misleading statements on their web site saying this is the same filter as the Prophet-5/Pro-One... There's also a reference in that language to the "Curtis sound" of various synths, including the Korg Mono/Poly. That's entirely an SSM machine, right? Am I missing something?? T...

Re: Some trolling from Katsunori Ujiie

ime 95% buy workstations largely for the sounds and want some ability to adjust them, and especially layer them - hence the interface. But not so much with the intent of synthesizing new sounds from scratch or thinking in fundamental sound design terms. They're not made to be efficient or very effe...

Re: GAME-CHANGING NEW SYNTHESIZER

 Well done. Highly amusing. I especially liked the vapid drum beat playing throughout the first half, and the slight changes that accompanied each of the musical genres featured in this breathtaking new product (I actually did laugh out load twice: House and Minimal Techno). Batting away the a...

Re: #Selfie Synth

I think this thread has just cracked the "Top 10 strangest VSE threads" of all time. We just need to bring in another two or three different topics, change the whole tone up a few more times -- we need at least one more "serious" topic here, and ideally a few people getting upset -- and this thing h...

I really don't understand why commodorejohn is being subjected to so much abuse in this thread. A breakdown in this forum's moderation?

Re: SCI Prophet 600 vs Oberheim Matrix 6

At the end of the day I want a poly that doesn't step on the toes of the other polys I have (Juno/Prophet/Poly Evovler). Have you considered (in this general price range) a Korg Polysix ? Simple architecture and limited synthesis capabilities, but the discrete VCOs through SSM filters sound absolut...

Re: When will we see a new (non-DSI) analog poly?

There has been some internet chatter that MFB will produce a 5-voice polyphonic analog synth, the Dominion 5 , employing the same SED filter as their Dominion X/Dominion 1. As far as I know, there's only a single online demo: https://soundcloud.com/mfb-instruments/mfb-dominion-5-sed-filter-24db To m...

Re: sh 101 over juno 60 bass would you.

I wouldn't pay $1200+ for an aging synth just because it has a better LFO/envelope/filter/arpeggiator/etc. than one I already have. It's not so much an argument against the sh specifically, but against blowing a huge wad of money on another synthesizer as opposed to just banking it for when you'll ...

Re: Some trolling from Katsunori Ujiie

So, speaking of both KRONOS and EX5: are they any good to do this typical FM+VA+rompler (+PM/VL, or whatever) layering trick? And generally - how much freedom is there for layering voices created by different engines? Can't speak to the EX-5, but I can say that there is LOTS of flexibility on the K...

Re: Some trolling from Katsunori Ujiie

Definitely not trolling. As others have said, he's envisioning his ideal Yamaha synth, made up of multiple engines. A resurrection of the EX-5 concept, or Yamaha's answer to the Kronos. But as I watched, I couldn't help but think that the Kronos already does all of that (HD-1 for PCM; MOD-7 for FM; ...

Re: Synths that didn't impress you

For me it was the Yamaha CS-15 , which I know is pretty popular here on VSE. It definitely has a lot going for it: great functionality (nearly two separate monosynths in a single box), multimode filters, classic look (and this one really IS built like a tank), very good value-for-money. But I just c...
