Ooh, a variant.

OK, for this I think I'd either go SEM + Xpander (assuming Matrix 12 would be over budget) or SH-5 + Jupiter 6. But probably the Oberheim combo.

Re: You can only have one...

Sensible choice for making music: Kronos + Dominion 1 (all those filter types!)

Choice for pure sound: Prophet 5 + Micromac (assuming $3K for one and $2K for the other).

Maybe "Micke" IS John Carpenter.

Re: Realistic reverberator

I've been using the Kurzweil Rumour , and am quite happy with it. Realistic spaces (including very small ones) are a real strength. Can be had for under $400. Great bang for the buck. Would love to get me some Eventide or Lexicon, too -- but aren't those better known for trippy, spaced-out, and non-...

Re: Talk me out of getting a Polysix

I think you should save up a bit more (and possibly sell one or two pieces) and aim for a dual VCO polysynth. If you haven't had the pleasure of playing one, I can tell you that it really does make a difference. Nor do you need to go into the stratosphere to get that sound. The Prophet 600 , for exa...

Don't think it's a multimode (with HPF and BPF); but it does have four slopes (6dB, 12dB, 18dB, and 24dB) which you can choose from the front panel.

God I hope you're right. But I'm thinking closer to $1999.

Re: Why do you use the Synthesizer you use most?

Well, like meatballfulton, I've got a big workstation at the center of my rig (in my case, the Korg Kronos). So almost by default that is the most used. But to give an answer more in the spirit of the thread (as I understand it), I'll go with the Prophet 5 . Why? It satisfies on every level: (i) I l...

Re: Virus KC vs. Microwave XTk

I think your challenge here is that you're asking for two different things. If you want to add something that your current synths don't cover, then it has to be the XTk. Wavetable synthesis done right. But it doesn't really fit the conventional definition of "warm" (it tends more towards the "icy ra...

Re: On using synths with FX processors

You know, there's not much point in having a discussion with you when you insist on being deliberately obtuse. You better hope that Stab Frenzy isn't a fan of the warden in Shawshank Redemption . If so, he might ban you for two weeks, then ask if he's still being "obtuse," and then ban you for anot...

Blasphemy! The XT is unapologetically digital, and revels in its digital beauty!

Of course, I wouldn't mind a Microwave myself. Or a PPG Wave... 8-)

Re: Sell everything and grab a CS-80

Yeah, I think I'm with silikon on this one. I've sometimes contemplated selling a bunch of stuff to get one super synth (I used to lust after the Jupiter 8), but I always concluded that I was more infatuated with the idea of the machine in question than I would be content with owning it as my sole s...
