Re: Advantage of a monophonic synth?

Might be a fluff point but you will think a lot harder about your harmony and doubling if you're writing for individual concurrent lines than if you're just slapping your fat paw down on a poly keyboard.

Re: Which drum machine...

Kick sounds like an acoustic sample but maybe tuned down a bit. There's an almost identical sounding kick by itself to sample in the start of master blaster by stevie wonder.

Snare you could get very easily with a decent acoustic snare sample and some gated reverb stuff.

Re: new to synth! any recommendation?

Tried out VST's/DAW's yet? No need to dive into hardware until you've figured out what it is you actually want yet (which it looks like you haven't). It's very easy to create music in an 80's vibe without actually using period equipment these days. I do it all the time (sorry for self-spam) https://...

Re: Is the equipment I'm using good enough to produce a.....

I'm using a Roland Fantom X with a Roland Quad capture Get rid of that. Cubase 5. Perfect. If not, what kind of equipment would I need to purchase ie. to get that professional sound ie. those powerful drum tracks heard in dance hits? Nothing. That exact kick is in one of the vengeance drum libraries...

I'm actually kind of surprised there aren't more DIY or modern versions of the clav out. Building one from a kit would be A+ fun IMO.

Re: R&B thing

What are you using for the Dx7 EP? it sounds just a TINY bit off.

Clap sounds really good, kick is probably lacking a tiny bit of sub bass for the kind of like muffled kick sound considering there's no bassline aside from it.

Sounds neato tho

Re: Listening to mix on multiple sources

I think a monitoring situation you're comfortable with and REFERENCE TRACKS are more important. A lot of the time if you do the whole "listen on my car, my boat, my iPod, my alarm clock" s**t you lose your s**t because "ooh this frequency sounds weird here" when really that's always gonna be weird a...

Re: Elektron A4 love? hate? indifference?

Maybe not here where a lot of people tend to be the type that buys a Memorymoog or PPG wave and then never turns it on, but on forums where most people make music there's a decent amount of discussion. There's a great thread on Muffs with lots of demo tracks of it. People on muffwiggler make music?

Wicked, it's like the synth equivalent of a gold tooth. Very useful for producing REAL TRAP MUZIK.
