Re: Guitar Pedal Modular... Synth nerd-ism at its finest.

chris carter from tg did something similar to this with a bunch of boss pedals (though it's slightly more sophisticated, he used a couple of nano-synths to kick off the loops):

Re: What's your favorite amp simulator (hardware)

Indeed, I think the LPB tube's main purpose is as a clean boost in order to easily facilitate power amp saturation, rather than a character-giver.

If you're considering digital emulation in a multi fx context, I've heard really good things about the amp sims in the Ensoniq DP/2 DP/4 racks.

Re: What's your favorite amp simulator (hardware)

Hmmm that's a good point actually, I guess they're only meant to shield a speaker connected to a cab head.

Re: What's your favorite amp simulator (hardware)

I haven't tried the EHX but I can't imagine it making a huge difference with the Sansamp since it's an all analog fet transistor design anyway. It may well soften things up a touch if you decided to go the digital route. You could always go and try the combination out in a shop, might get some inter...

Re: What's your favorite amp simulator (hardware)

Been wondering about this also. My current setup is Jazzmaster > pedals > audio interface > Amplitube 3, but I'm still kinda dissatisfied. Sansamp GT - 2 maybe? Do you need to use a cab sim if recording it DI to computer? Axe FX seems to be the standard for digital sims but it's a bit more than your...

Re: Software Compressor?

There's this other really cool freeware plug that just dropped recently, Klanghelm's DC1A:

It's good for just sitting on the main bus and making everything all pumpy and crunched up, or for some subtle glue.

Re: Software Compressor?

Logic's native compressor can be dialed in to have plenty of "balls" -- before throwing money at the problem you should take some more time to learn how to use it properly first. If you go here some dude has made a load of presets that model the Waves SSL 4000 emulation (he measured both with test t...

Re: sample rates in low bit samplers

Hmmmm I will try the individual outputs and compare, thanks. Looking at the Youngmonkey page it says there is seperate low pass filters on both the stereo outs and individual outs, it would be cool to try and bypass them somehow... Though the darkness is a rather nice sound in itself.

Re: sample rates in low bit samplers

Some resampling algorithms will implement a filter, some won't. For example, when Typhoon was upgraded to the 2000 version, they put in a filter for the resampling so it sounded cleaner. I stopped using that feature :) Does anyone know if the earlier 1.0 version of Typhoon is available to download ...

Re: Gear Envy.

to get back on topic, i think it's totally cool for people to have huge rooms of synths, even if they don't play them. many of them are, after all, historical artifacts as well as instruments i just hope the people who do use them are responsible about their energy consumption and at least aware of ...

Re: Gear Envy.

"At the end of the day, your validity is generated by how may people like what you do... whether it's genius, or bullshit. Get used to it." maybe if you see music as a business, and society as some kind of big shop, then yeah. if you do, then you're part of the problem, frankly good luck with that w...
