Re: Synths that didn't impress you

The 'deal' with the D-50 is that it's a very warm, thick sounding digital synth Do you have a D50 card on your V-synth, or have you tried one before? If so, would you describe it with the same words, or is it worth having an original D50 for that? I have a V-synth and would like to try a D50, but w...

Re: #Selfie Synth

Why don't all of you attacking Commodorejohn just admit that he had it right from the beginning of this thread and all you charlatans have been doing is misinterpreting him to make him repeat himself so you can accuse him for being self-important since you're unable to present any actual arguments? ...

Re: Kiwi Technics to make KiwiJX8P

I'm not that enthused. Kiwitechnics' "upgrades" of these vintage synths are really great. But does the world really need a better JX-8P? And further, who wants to pay more for the upgrade than the synth itself? Used JX-8Ps are cheap, usually a couple of hundred, even on eBay. But these firmware rew...

Re: Quality Matters--interesting post

Besides, if someone really wanted great sound and flexibility above all else and had money to spend, why would they not go the modular route? To me, that makes far more sense than investing big money into old synths nowadays unless there is a synth that has a particular tone that you *must* have. I...

Re: Reverb unit with cool small room effects

Hey great tips! :thumbleft: Yes primarily I am looking for hardware. Especially if I can find something cheap or something that's otherwise interesting in addition to having nice small room verb. Like maybe a kick a*s flanger or even a synth.. I see a lot of praise for the valhalla stuff t...

Re: Reverb unit with cool small room effects

For "itty-bitty room" and early reflections, I've always had good luck with Yamaha. SPX units do well, if you're looking for a metallic character. (And the post-SPX90 SPX units have a semi-hidden second layer, where you can insert some filters and such, to more precisely tune your fake room.) I've ...

Re: Sampler with realtime sample pause and continue function

Huh? The V-Synth does this easily, just change it from re-trigger to legato, or whatever nomenclature they use on the Osc screen. For real? Hmm.. I'll check it out again. If I understand what you're saying, you mean like if I were looking at a wave on a computer and a little line that we can see sc...

Re: Sampler with realtime sample pause and continue function

I have a feeling the V-Synth will do this, but can't say for sure at the moment. Only way the V-synth will do it is by detecting 'events' automatically beforehand, for later to play the events one by one as you press a key again and again. There's no way to place event points by note off in realtime.

Re: Sampler with realtime sample pause and continue function

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean. I'd prefer a sampler with MIDI input. I mean realtime playable MIDI notes that will trigger a sample like normal, BUT after the first keypress, instead of retriggering from its beginning each time another key is pressed, the sample continue from the point ...

Sampler with realtime sample pause and continue function?

Are there any samplers that allow for the sample playback to pause on note off and continue from the pause point on next note on, all in non quantized realtime?

Re: Reverb unit with cool small room effects

Yeah I've though about recording specific sounds the old fashioned way through speakers and experiment with mic placement for some natural room information, but I've just moved and don't have anything near a decent sounding room yet. I understand the Bricasti M7 is supposed to be good for natural ro...

Re: Reverb unit with cool small room effects

Sorry, can't think of any examples. Live 60's and maybe 70's jazz I believe is what I'm thinking of, so I guess no compression. I'm not really sure whether this has all that much to do with the room, more than just a cool snare sound in a pleasant sounding real room. Like the sound of a standing bas...

Reverb unit with cool small room effects

So I'm into strange, spooky and "jazzy" small room reverb effects for drum sounds, and also cool "canny" or small chamber effects for anything between drums & percussion to blibs & bloops, bass and lead synth sounds. I don't have any examples, really, but I like these cool live jazz recordings where...
