Re: Alternate DX7 logo

Well, this is freaky! I am currently writing blog posts about DX7 ads and point this older logo out as well. I first noticed this older logo in the photo used in the DX7 "On Test" review found in the US/Canada edition of the October 1983 issue of International Musician and Recording World. I haven't...

Re: Roland PG-200 likes my fridge

I like this a lot. Now I can't stop thinking about other things I could attach my programmers too. Car. Furnace. Mailbox. Grampa's forehead with the metal plate. Would there be enough strength with magnetic wall paint that I could keep my programmers attached to the walls rather than taking up preci...

Re: Rhythm Studio update

Very familiar. :D

I'm really digging the new fm sound textures this new synth adds.

Good times... Good times.

Re: Some thoughts on the Arp Odyssey

the odyssey just is too aggressive in a way I don't like. Aggressive is a great way to describe the sound! To that end, I find it really comes in handy when you pair it, either note-for-note or in some kind of intertwined pattern, with a similar type sound playing on another synth such as an MS20 o...

Re: Opening synth sound for Erasure's Victim of Love

It could well be the casio...Why not. Agreed ... highly highly likely digital, regardless. Think I recall seeing a pic of Vince w/ 4 stacked CZ101's at some point, as well. . I hear a stringy sound (with chorus or flange as someone else suggested) - and with maybe a slight touch of an attack of a k...

Re: Best Linux software for synth nerds and producers?

Renoise has a full 32/64 bit linux release too. I have to go with tekkentool on this suggestion. I installed Ubuntu/Renoise on a first generation netbook and it works like a charm. And easy to install too! (although some say Ubuntu is kinda cheating :) It started almost as an experiment in minimal ...

Re: Korg Trident MK1 (need some help here)

I just went into my studio and turned on my Trident MK1. After a quick bit of testing... 1)as I understood,I can save only a synth section, but ok,when I save that and push the patch button I hear something a little different from what I've just made with sound before saving. When I push back the man...

Re: Cure synths and Drum machines circa 1981-1984

There is an interview with Lol Tolhurst in the Aug 87 issue of Keyboard where he talks a lot about the keyboards they used on their latest album. I know... way past the 81-84 period you ask about - but there are a few parts where he talks about gear he had purchased in the past - not necessarily use...

Re: Case foam melting onto Taurus Pedals...

Well. Round one of cleaning is complete. Thanks for the advice - appreciated! I started by removing as much foam as possible by hand, and then removed the pedals from the case onto the floor (not on the rug!) Next I used an old vacuum to suck up as much of the foam from the outside of the machine as...

I heard that every time a Sequential Circuit logo is removed, somewhere a Prophet 5 dies.

I have had luck with the hair dryer too. But your mileage may vary.

Re: Euro Rack power supply.

I bought the Tip Top Audio uzeus power supply with the flying bus boards and have been totally happy with it. I just bought a second unit for two reasons: 1. take the new bus board ribbons off the new power supply to attach to my current flying bus boards to make longer ribbons. 2. keep the new powe...

Case foam melting onto Taurus Pedals...

As you can see in the photo below, the blue foam that surrounds the inside of the anvil case has very recently decided to melt/disintegrate around the pedals. Luckily, the control window was closed, and the bottom feet and pedals kept foam from entering the actual unit. There may be a minimal amount...

Re: What was your first Moog?

I'm lucky to say that my first Moog was the modular that you see in my avatar photo. Is it a Ip? Based on what I've found on moogarchives.com's 1C/1P page, mine seems to be a slightly customized IP (without the optional 960/961 sequencer): http://moogarchives.com/mod6801.htm According to that page,...

Re: Synth Identification from Photo - Help Request

The yellowy-orange blur in the rack on the right looks kinda like a Mark of the Unicorn midi time piece. But can't be sure from the resolution of the photo.
