Re: What was your first Moog?

I'm lucky to say that my first Moog was the modular that you see in my avatar photo. I was a grad student, and a friend had phoned me to tell me that she saw an ad in her musician's union newsletter that simply stated "keyboard for sale" along with a phone number. She said she "had a feeling about i...

Re: Expanding the Dark Energy

verkannt, I agree with Hair and meatballfulton - don't forget the "boring" stuff! Considering all the Eurorack module options, some people may even consider LFOs, S&H, and EGs as boring... but all are definitely worth having around. I kinda did the opposite of you. I started off with a few other Eur...

Sorry - I shouldn't have said 'pure' square wave. Maybe as square as the sx210 allows? :)

Or, was I totally mistaken in my understanding of the functionality of the square/PW functionality?

Re: kawai sx-210 Square wave faulty

Howdy cutoffres and others, Just so we are all on the same page, the SX210 has three wave forms - Sawtooth, Square Wave, and Pulse. On my machine... <---- covers my butt :) ... the square wave and pulse are kinda connection - only one can be active at a time. There is a PW/PWM button beside the Squa...

Re: A-Ha - How Did They Get That Sound??

Some people might kill me for saying this - but it could be a DX sound. I've heard they used a DX7 on a few of the songs on that album. Go to around the 7:30ish mark on this youtube vid to hear a pan-flutish type patch. Especially the higher notes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmp9yqhsjqg Just thi...

Re: WaldorfXT is collecting dust while I use Virus TI. Opini

my Blofeld sits well with my Virus and there is very little sonic overlap between the two. Agreed. Don't get rid of it just yet, unless you really need the cash. Try doubling up sequences of your other synths with the XT - the synergy of two (or three... or four.... ) different synths playing the s...

Re: TR909 to cubase

What a coincidence... I was just trying to hook up my TR909 and sequencer last weekend. If you were trying to record the MIDI notes of a pattern into Cubase, you may have run into the same problem I did. 1. Hooked up MIDI in and out cables between TR909 and Sonar. 2. Put TR909 into slave mode so whe...

Re: saving on the tenori on

By "loops/creations" I'm gonna assume you mean a block (all 16 layers). You can find the manual here. http://www.global.yamaha.com/tenori-on/downloads/pdf/manual.pdf Page 74 provides the direction to save the current block. I just tried it on mine by inputting a few notes on a few layers, and then s...

Re: Mechanical machinery type patches

Maybe try FM synthesis? A Yamaha TX81Z or 802 should provide you with some clanks and clunks! Especially if you find programming synth patches "infinitely more fun" :D - Edit - Just noticed you mentioned you tried FM already. Hmmmm... Sorry 'bout that. I'll plug one in on the weekend and try and com...

Re: emergency sync issue help please!- sh-09/CSQ-600 sync cl

Howdy, I'm hoping someone with a CSQ can help you more (I don't have one) but I took a quick look at the CSQ manual I found online here: http://media.rolandus.com/manuals/CSQ-600_OM.pdf I tried running a midi cable from the TR_707 sync-out(DIN) to the CSQ-600 DIN SYNC, but that did not work, as the ...

Re: Dinsynk conundrum (606 and 707)

Hi there, I have my 606 and 707 in front of me, along with a good DIN cable and a MIDI cable. Based on my tests, I think the problem may be your 707 DIN connector... here's why: Situation 1: 606 slave/707 master both units initially turned off Switch 606 DIN sync to input, turn on. Turn on 707 - aut...

Re: Anyone remember Music Technology magazine?

Did MT used to be Electronics & Music Maker previously? Definitely connected - but oddly, never made the connection until you asked this. Pulled an issue of EMM off the shelf (April 86 - Belouis Some) and below the E&MM logo on the cover is "Electronics & Music Maker/The Music Technology Magazine"....
