Re: Novation Ultranova is surprisingly cool

The Ultra is a Supernova II stuffed into a more compact case w/ added features like vocoder, rudimentary wavetables. Alas it's only mono-timbral but who cares. In my hands it was very much the trance machine.

Re: Modular starter kits?

I started w/ a Pittsburgh System 10.1+ and it was an excellent way to start. Y ou can find used or demo models for only $700. Fantastic sounding oscillators (blade wave anyone?) w/ sub-oscillator, Lowpass Gate Filter, envelope w/ ping mode for ultra-snappy transients, and the MIDI3 module has mono/d...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 6 Display Problem

Yes, make sure the power supply is putting out the required voltages within spec. Check for ripple with a scope as well. Then check the display board voltages, looks like there are both 9V AC as well as +5V DC incoming.

Re: Roland tr09 reasons to be cheerful

I have the TR-8. But I was at the store waiting on something else, when I cranked out a shuffling banger on the TR-09 demo unit. Really put a groove in the air, albeit almost closing time. I like the layout, a bit tight, but workable and fun. Love the look, too.

Re: HELP Roland Juno 106 3rd voice plays double note

Swapping the voice chips tells you it's not the voice chip. Have you re-calibrated anything?...after acetone bath I have found this necessary. Carefully check the power supply calibration under load as well, make sure there the DC output is within spec. Otherwise you'll have to trace the signals in ...

Re: My Juno 60 is dead. Any help?

Check the internal battery? I thought that the battery was only there to save memory. It is possibly bad but I can't even get to the part to attempt to make a preset to save yet. Most synths from the era have a CPU/memory protection circuit when the battery starts dying. Test the battery with a DVM...

Wrong. With no load, it should be around 12v.

Re: Jupiter 6 with Europa 2.0 freezes when midi is transmitt

Version 2.0 is a beta test, so problems can be expected. Unfortunately there's no manual or troubleshooting guide it would appear. Also check if you have the latest OS loaded, although it would seem moot if you can't get midi to behave properly. I have Europa ver 1.0 and has a reputation for choking...

Re: Roland 909 Day

Roland's product page claims to introduce 5 synthesizers and 10 new drums + percussion products. It's likely the TR-09 is one of these drums products. Leaving 2 un-leaked synthesizer products.

Re: Roland 909 Day

Has anyone noticed the cool features in the System-8? Third Osc/Sub-Osc, three plug-outs can be loaded at the same time, vocoder, multi-timbral split, chord memory, sequencer, and who knows what else.

Re: Roland 909 Day

I agree on the Vocoder plus boutique! I had hoped Roland would re create this in their new line up. I do hope it has a lot more than 4 voices though...it looks great and I happily wait on hearing about all the particulars on this one! Thank you Roland! I have faith they are still doing the ACB thin...

Re: Roland 909 Day

The VP-03 (VP-330) Boutique is long overdue! Hope it sounds as good as it looks. They seemed to be using the longer throw sliders, perfecto. Oh, and hope it has a stereo output, could only do it justice even if it's one of those TRS minijacks. Look at that bolted down XLR mic input on the front - lo...
