Re: Synths similar to the RS-09?

as madtheory says the G-Force software VSM Virtual String Machine (not GSM) is pretty amazing. I have it and it has ARPs, Rolands, Eminent, and even Oberheim strings and more. Has a built-in phaser effect as well. There is another thread at http://www.vintagesynth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=82883...

Re: Synths similar to the RS-09?

What is not too expensive, specifically? Under $1000? Under $500.? As commodorejohn says Streichfett is all about that old string sound w/ a built-in phaser and all. It's a one-off thing to see a new product emulation of that old string sound. Streichfett is unique in that way. Otherwise you will ha...

Very well done, excellent repair videos. This one had more than its fair share of woes.

Re: Roland TR-606 power up problem

The power jack might have come loose on the circuit board. The power/volume switch/pot may be broken. It may have sustained damage from previous owners plugging in the wrong power supply, common mistake.

Re: First true synth purchase, need information on choices

I second what ninja says with the JX-8P . They are dirt cheap right now. The Alpha Juno is within your budget and was my first analog synth. I enjoyed it a lot. Roland Gaia can be found used in that budget, has 64-voice polyphony and 3 different sound engines including a decent sounding analog-model...

Re: Roland JX-8P KIWI Upgrade Announced

Oh snap, yeah. I seem to remember him talking about the KiwiSix and having the boards shipped to him. What he did to BT's JX-3P with the metal ends was also cool.

Roland JX-8P KIWI Upgrade Announced

(EDIT) Syntegrator, has announced the JX-8P is getting the KIWI treatment. The upgrade is still in development. In addition to memory expansion and a new membrane layout graphics, it's also getting an assignable Modulation Matrix with 8 possible sources. I'm pretty sure the VCO2 sync/crossmod and de...

Re: Outside sound penetrating 1/4' cables

Baby monitor IS plausible. It's been a while, but I can remember picking up radio stations if conditions were just so. I've heard some bizarre things seemingly layered into tracks this way, doorbells, dog barking, things that I didn't put there and not using any microphones at all. I think in that c...

Re: Best way to repair broken PCB tracks?

I've been in this situation before and had a hard time keeping adjacent bridges from soldering to each other. You need very thin bus wire, at least 26 gauge. You might use a surface mount technique where you dab solder paste on the tracks, position all the bridging wires, and heat gun the whole area...
