Re: Most physically attractive synths

I like the look of my JX-3P... Especially if I keep it clean and tidy:

Re: The Official 'Secrets of the Studio' Thread!

Hmmmm... I admit, I don't have too much to say, but I do have a few things. I agree with something somebody already said, and that is, You Don't Need That Much Bass. You really don't. Leave heavy EQ-ing to the listener. If somebody complains that there's not enough bass in the mix, then clearly they...

Re: Rolling Cables

This is a good thread! I do a method similar to this, just not over-under. That method looks VERY VERY effective. What I do is just wrap up the cables like they came from the factory, and putting a velcro band around the middle. Keeps it more compact. I hate it when people wrap up cables by wrapping...

Re: Question About Samplers...

OK I just realized that all the drum samples I'm SERIOUSLY interested in using constantly add up to about 24 minutes and 10 seconds of Audio. Most samples are Mono, some are stereo. I'm looking into the AKAI MPC 1000, mainly becuase with the upgrade I can fit all those sounds into it, and it takes ...

Re: Question About Samplers...

Thanks all for more suggestions. Realistically speaking, NO I won't be using that many samples at one time. At MOST, maybe 20-30 of them but that would be a CRAZY drum pattern. I guess the idea is to have "banks" of drum sounds (samples that I have), like I said 61 drums mapped out ready for me to p...

Re: Question About Samplers...

In the meantime, can anyone back up my findings? Can all AKAI S-Series Samplers do what I want to do? Could there be something else?

Re: Question About Samplers...

Do you need a sequencer? Probably not, right? Any rack sampler should do you. Akai s6000s are ludicrously cheap these days. Actually you're right, at the moment I'm good on sequencing. (recently discovered that Cubase 4 is good at sequencing). I'm planning on MAJORLY upgrading my studio in the next...

Re: Question About Samplers...

Also, I've got a LOT more than TR's in my collection, like Fairlight sounds, Casio, Oberheim, Yamaha, EMU, and even sounds generated by Jupiters, Moog modulars, and ARP modulars. Basically, nearly every beatbox ever made, and EVERYthing inbetween, haha. Now that I think on it, the MOTIF XS was somet...

Re: Question About Samplers...

If you just want to take samples of the classic TR's + other classic machines I would recommend an electribe ES-1 or ESX - then you get the classic TR style sequencing as well. But then later on you stated that you want 2 gigs of samples which is too much for the electribes I was TOTALLY considerin...

Question About Samplers...

I'm looking to get one ($500-$600 highest). The thing I plan on using it PRIMARILY for is triggering drum samples. Mostly for house. That's beside the point, though. I need to be able to trigger MANY drumsounds, simltaneously (No problem, I see, because most samplers I've been looking at have like 3...

Re: Found a JX-3P at my Local Music Store... Thinking...

Whatever you do, if you end up bringing it back, don't even say you opened it up, not even to clean the inside. Just say you cleaned up the surface if they ask anything, and act like you were too afraid to touch anything and you've never soldered a thing so you didn't have the balls to look at it. ...

Re: Found a JX-3P at my Local Music Store... Thinking...

HA! s**t you guys, the switch was in the wrong position. I guess you can't write a pattern into the sequencer when the switch is turned to MIDI? Makes sense when you look at it as Roland's first MIDI synth... Haha!! The sequencer works now to my knowledge! Ok, now, I just use it for a while ad test ...
