Re: getting too caught up in tech

I don't think anyone is that that talented!! Once you get a sense of satisfaction from what you're doing, that's all that matters!
Yea you right, I think I meant more something that people other than me could also appreciate listening to. But yea, you kno what I mean..

Re: IC's long gone..

To me, 100 people willing to pay $100 each for a chip that has failed and crippled a beloved synth doesnt sound too far fetched. Maybe im crazy, but one day it could come down to that.. As far as building replica's on small pcb's that could be pinned out to match the existing sockets or pads, would ...

IC's long gone..

So ive been wondering what will we do when the stock of all the rare and discontinued IC's from our coveted analog synths dries up. I was thinking last night about my Mono/Poly, im pretty sure its got a failing voice, which would most likely require replacing one of the SSM 2033 IC's that have been ...

Re: getting too caught up in tech

No, I like the synths themselves and don't see the problem researching them. I agree that it's good to make the best use of what you have instead of lusting over something new. I also think there's room to do both. I'm happy to spent time just playing and programming patches, unless it's your caree...

Re: Using Velcro with Gear

My JX-3p had some Velcro on it when I got it and I had a h**l of a time getting all the glue off. Definitely use some sort of masking tape underneath of it. Once I removed all the glue with a mild detergent I cleaned the whole front panel with a Mr. Clean magic eraser and aside from a couple deep sc...

Re: Properly storing synths?

Alright cool, well ill probably wrapping and packing most of the stuff as if I were going to ship it. Some of the keyboards ill be lending to good friends to use/keep company for the time being. Having the others boxed will make moving them in and around easier and im thinking about selling a few an...

Properly storing synths?

Im going to be moving into my sisters place in the next few weeks, switching jobs and trying to save money all at the same time. Unfortunately this means I wont have enough space to put all my keyboards and rack gear into her house as theres only a spare bedroom available. :( This will only be tempo...

Re: A couple questions about replacing caps..

I have no way of knowing who's more right here but I'll just stick with replacing tants with tants and electros with electros. Just to be sure. Waiting 7 weeks to get this thing back together is not desirable but I want to do it right so I'm not just wasting my time. Thanks everyone for your input t...

Re: A couple questions about replacing caps..

Also a book I have states that tantalums are very closely related to electrolytic but basically are just smaller, more precise (lower tolerance), and less susceptible to noise. That said I think modern electros should perform just as good if not better than vintage tants given that the tolerances ar...
