Re: Studio Electronics Boomstar 4075

I had a little fiddle with it at Schneider's Buero a few days ago, it didn't sound very 2600 like to me and not very good either, which is why I didn't play too long ( I may have missed some hidden knob or something though). There was a micro-mac next to it that sounded completely in a different lea...

Re: Was "New Age" just Bubblegum EM?

Back in the 1980s, it seemed like New Age music was going to finally bring EM into the mainstream. The sad end result was Yanni, endless wind chime pads, quasi-romantic piano noodling and gift shop meditation CDs. How did such a promising genre end up such a laughing stock? Electronic music was pre...

Re: Was "New Age" just Bubblegum EM?

I always thought that new age was just ambient-electronic-experimental-non/music stuff with some poorly thought out and dubious spiritual notions and/or whale sounds involved. I'm thinking that a lot of the earlier ambient/electronics guys might still sound interesting largely because of the gear th...

Re: Minibrute vs x0xb0x

I get your situation, I'm a big fan of synths with sequencers...
I'd also look at the new bass-station, the sequencer looks pretty handy. Or look at getting a sequencer for the minibrute, Midipal is a cheap way...
Waiting for the volca is probably your best option though...

Re: Minibrute vs x0xb0x

The xoxbox is not much fun for regular synth action outside acid flavoured things (it is possible but not really the point of the box). The sequencer is really cool though.
If you aren't especially into doing acid I'd look at other things or hang on to the minibrute.

Re: Elektron to replace... Everything?

Does anyone have any experience with both the Monomachine and Juno arpeggiators? how do they compare? does the monomachine have the same glistening beauty of the Juno? Is the Monomachine capable of making a classic synth bass sound? I have both MM and JU60. The monomachine is very much capable of c...

Re: still something missing

I think in general 2 oscs is better than 1, right? ;) I have been able to get some funky stabs from my jx3p which imo is one of the last good deals for analog polys. There are numerous 80s knobless synths that might also be worth a look (kawai sx240, k3 ....) the larger and more famous synths (proph...

Re: still something missing

I think for the brass stabs it helps to have a 2 osc machine. I wonder if the jx8p might be a little sluggish with the envelopes though? (mine is broken otherwise i'd check). I know my jx3p is good for that. I think that sort of music definitely needs to be played to get the right feel, or maybe you...

Re: Polysynth Recommendations

I think the cheaper options are generally 80's models. some of the relatively cheap options that are also interesting (to me at least) Oberheim matrix6 Roland jx 3p/8p Roland d50 Ensoniq sq80/esq1 Waldorf microwave Late 70's stuff is probably more what you're after but expect to pay a lot Trident, c...

Re: Archangel Sequencer

Looks fantastic, have heard nothing but good things about it which seems to be rare for a new product hitting market these days. It's neat that the gestational period of the project allowed basically every function possible to be included. This gets the motor running much harder than the Cirklon do...

Re: New Octatrack reverbs!

nice! there's a lot more i would wish for before more reverbs but every update is exciting!!! What kind of other stuff? For me the reverb was the only thing I wanted different, but that's probably just due to the octatrack really suiting the way that I work. Would be keen to hear what kind of impro...

Looking at the original post it says Solved. Maybe it's a good idea to share how you got it working for the people living in the future ;)
