Re: Yamaha DX1

No worries Clyde, I'm typing this right in front of my own SY77. I remember trying a 99 when they were new, but the 22 was the only SY in my price range back then, and even than I ended up with something cheaper instead. I've had a TX81Z for many years but never found it very satisfying to program....

Re: Yamaha DX1

Well, no, you'd have to be mad just to buy a DX-1 for its poly AT. Presumably someone buying a DX-1 will do so for other reasons that its FM capability as compared with later models. It'd look good next to a CS-80, that one Heath... ;-) Here's a later model, the SY99 on YouTube, this is a compilati...

Re: Yamaha DX1

The DX1 had poly AT though, which I don't think surfaced on any subsequent FM synth except over MIDI, which isn't quite the same as controllers that transmit it are not very common. And while poly AT is a nice feature, that one feature does not make the overall sounds better than all the other FM s...

Re: Yamaha DX1

Well, I hate to be the wet blanket here, but I don't find those DX1 sounds that impressive. While they do sound better than a MkI DX7, I think the DX7IIFD was very close to being it's equal if not better in sound, and no question that the SY77/99 far surpassed the DX1's sound palette (even with the...

Re: DX100 reboots after receiving MIDI messages

As well, synths from the DX100 era have trouble handling midi data that is sent too fast, the midi buffer fills up and it cannot properly receive more midi data. This is especially true of midi data sent from a computer like sysex files, you have to remember that computer CPUs operated at mHz back i...

Re: Yellowed Alesis Ion keys?

The keys have yellowed on our 1960's era Steinway L (which we've had since new). The piano still functions flawlessly, so we don't see it as a big deal. We are more concerned about how it plays and sounds rather than being overly concerned about the keys yellowing. We do try to keep it in excellent ...

Bingo! That goes to the real heart of the question, I think further info is needed from the OP.

Re: Looking for a synth

Probably out of the price range you're looking for, the Yamaha CP300 stage piano has onboard speakers (as well as audio outs) and midi, with a pretty decent piano sound and a bunch of general midi type sounds.

Are we supposed to be impressed with that video?? Quite frankly, I've heard better sounds on a $19.95 child's keyboard at Walmart.

Re: Yamaha DX7 vs. Yamaha DX11

Don't know about Lately Bass but you can reproduce the DX100's Solid Bass on the DX7 patch using the data below: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steve.sims/essential_dx7_patches.htm I don't think there is any patch done on a DX100/DX11/TX81z or any other 4op FM synth that the DX7 could not do. Well, I...

Re: DX7 D/A distortion issue

On a Mark 1 DX7, this is how you initialise a patch to a simple sine wave. There is no factory reset procedure. - Brown 'Function' button - Button 10 (Voice Init) - 'Yes' button - 'Yes' button again No factory reset on a MkI DX7? That's not exactly so, running the test routines in effect does a res...

Re: DX7 D/A distortion issue

Someone that is more tech savy than myself can probably offer better suggestions that are more to the point. Try a factory reset first, probably won't solve your issue, but it won't hurt. Internal battery condition? How do the factory patches sound? Sometimes edited voices can have settings that cau...
