Re: Which laptop?

I've got a 13" Retina Macbook from 2013. I went with 8gb of ram and a 250gb harddrive. Definitely wished I had just spent the extra $200 on 16gb of ram. Just for some of the heavier third party pieces of software (Aalto, Diva, East West). But, multitracking Logic and Arturia instruments happens with...

Damnit, I was about to say 'ugh, the early 90's.' Then I listened to this cue:

Re: 13 song LP on bandcamp: trip hop/IDM/samples/synths

Cool, nice to hear about how it goes down. I might be coming from a slightly jaded point of view, but it seems to me if an artist isn't making endless noise for him/herself on the internet via social media, little attention is drawn. If anything, that might be reason to seek out a label to help you ...

Re: 13 song LP on bandcamp: trip hop/IDM/samples/synths

Nice work! I don't really listen to anything else like this, so no specific suggestions to spread it from me. I would just say to seek out other forums and blogs that support this type of music. Wouldn't hurt to join Soundcloud, if you haven't already. I just did a quick google search - you didn't p...

Re: Prophet-6 Module Announced!

Ok, you start ;) :thumbright: Who, me? Nahhhhhh. That sounds like a bunch of work. I just wanna tweak knobs, man :ugeek: The Prophet 6 sounds nice, and I'm sure the module will be popular. But Stab's point is well taken. We've been awash in products aimed at recreating the past. Obviously because t...

Re: Anyone else use a lot of Japanese synths?

I was worried about my Japanese-sourced MS20 when I first got it. But after some research, it sounded like it was a non-issue. Check out Hideaway's post at the end of this thread: http://www.vintagesynth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=24085 damnit, then I read synthparts response on this thread: http...

Re: Uppsala Analogue Synthesizer Symphonic Orchestra

Thats pretty rad. I wish they were playing more orchestra-type compositions. Its seems to wander more into standard 'electronic' fare...

How cool would it be to recreate a standard 70~ piece symphonic orchestra with vintage analogs? Every part has to played by hand though, no sequencing!

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

Retribution is a solid listen. I haven't checked out the reissue yet, but will have to. I am a little more partial towards The Lost Empire, from a couple of years earlier (1984). The release I have contains both scores. What I really still need to do though, is watch both movies!

Tomorrow Stops - Anomaly (2012)

This is more your guys' speed. All electronic and sample based. Funky as always. Man, I gotta cut loose and do more of this stuff! Rhodes Prophet '08 Tempest Nord Electro 3 (piano, mellotron flute/voices) Model D (just the bassline in track 6) https://soundcloud.com/nathaniel-johnson-1/01-shuffle-an...

Re: Tracks feat. Matrix-12, Pittsburgh, SH-101

Good to hear that there's more coming! Absolutely less-is-more when it comes to arranging and mixing. With electronic music I try to use as little eq and compression as possible, and instead try to get my elements to work together through better sound design (which of course is more fun!) So, lots t...

Re: Tracks feat. Matrix-12, Pittsburgh, SH-101

Great stuff - I could go for an album of it!

Just be wary of over using compression. If a tracking is needing to pop more, think about subtracting information (by way of EQ, or volume automation) from another source, instead of adding!

Re: Versatile, warm analogue polysynths?

Side by side comparisons; VCO>DCO all day long in terms of "warmth." For exactly the reasons Marc stated. However, DCO isolated from VCO can definitely yield some pleasant results. Especially if you haven't had a VCO board under your fingertips and in front of your ears before. Then, we can talk abo...

Re: Dave Smith price drops

Meatball, I'd love to hear stuff you've done with the Evolver. You always speak so affectionately about it!

The only Evolver I had was the poly keys. Great board, I just wish it had one more voice. I've definitely been tempted to go about the mono keys version. Maybe some day...
