Re: Yamaha Reface

I'm actually in the process of coming around to mini keys. You just have to train your hands/fingers appropriately. I still edit the daylights out of my performances, so its not changing how I play. If anything, the limitation that comes along with mini keys that still drives me a bit bonkers is lac...

Re: Arp Odyssey

Fair enough, meatball. For me the Voyager was a wonderful instrument. Its was my first real analog mono and I had it for many years. But it just never had the wild edge to the filter I desired. It was oh so smooth and tame. Every single vintage piece I've tried has had the this wild edge. This trait...

Re: Arp Odyssey

Oh, I know, I know. Your point is well made. I'm pondering highly subjective questions that can only answered by direct experience. I am fascinated with the concept though, so I like thinking/talking about it. I will say thats its not at all practical to put this much energy into the analysis of sou...

Re: Arp Odyssey

Of course! My frame of reference here is comparing the new MS-20 Mini to the Mk1 I had. It was a pretty distinct difference. I'm only assuming of course that there will be a similar difference between the new Odyssey and a vintage one...

Re: Arp Odyssey

Wow. Not the response I was expecting. Having trouble recreating an Oddity patch on an Odyssey....very intriguing. Perhaps the initial Oddity patch was a thing of pure inspiration that just can't be recreated exactly on the Odyssey. Like the sliders have to be adjust ever so slightly or something. I...

Re: WHERE TO START ON SELLING MY DAD'S SYNTHS, AMPS, SPEAKER

First off, so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. I know thats not an easy thing to deal with. Generally speaking, here on VSE is a great place to sell (and buy!) vintage equipment. Most of us on here are exactly the target audience. I find people on here to be trustworthy and generally enthusia...

Re: Arp Odyssey

Well, here we are in July and I still haven't landed an Odyssey yet. I went ahead and purchased the full license for the Oddity 2, and I gotta say, I'm having trouble finding faults in it. Everything I throw at it programming wise sounds pretty great. Its also super lite in the CPU usage department,...

Re: Shopping for a budget sound card

Lots of interfaces have a way to daisy chain additional ones together via adat/lightpipe/whatever fancy term company x uses. Check out the Focusrite Saffire Pro 14. Its got two mic pres switchable from line/mic and 2 additional line inputs. It can do 96kHz and has an adat connection should you want ...

Yeah, I guess more knobby was what I was thinking about. Although I am definitely intrigued by the Blofeld desktop after hearing Don Solaris' analog patch bank....

Desktop Modules

Curious, I've never really explored this side of the synth world. What are some of your favorite desktop synth modules? Whats out there? I know of modern ones like the Tetra/Mopho/Evolver, Blofeld, Voyager/Minitaur, Nord, Vermona and Doepfer. Then there's all the rackmount type stuff from the 90's (...

Re: Prophet 600 vs Prophet '08

Then there's the jackasses on ebay asking $2500 for a P600. :banghead: What is wrong with people?!?!

Whats worse, is that some jackhole will actually buy it!

Unison Mode ala Marc Doty ==> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6onK30jYfo I've really been trying hard to ignore the P6 altogether. Really and truly. In a weak moment, I clicked on the 'Poly Mod #2' video. And now this Unison one. Goddamnit Marc, this board is super cool! Thank you for making these...

Re: Sweet spot synths

Interesting topic... I consider the concept of 'sweet spot' as a timbral reference which I think is largely defined by filter design. To me, a great sounding instrument maintains a pleasant (non-fatiguing) timbre no matter what knob tweaking brings. A well designed filter circuit would have to sound...
