Re: I enjoy the challenge of simplicity.....

I don't think anyone has answered my question regarding the use of computers.

How many of you here compose, or even record (gasp!) without a computer?

I would like to think my end-game would be a setup that I could escape the computer screen altogether with.

Thoughts?

Re: I enjoy the challenge of simplicity.....

I have a similar mindset.. are you sure about the 707 though? I tried doing one fixed-tone drum machine (even with some mods), but found it was just too much of a limit to me. Now I use an ESX - if I want to limit myself I just load up one set of samples. So it came in on Tuesday and I've played wi...

Re: I enjoy the challenge of simplicity.....

i am trying to shrink down my setup as well . the nice thing when you limit yourself to a small setup is that you developp an intimate relationship with specific instruments as you are forced to use them in ways you woulnt have though of otherwise. i have put togheter a small eurorack system and i ...

Re: I enjoy the challenge of simplicity.....

I like simplicity, but... make sure you don't want to use that synth again before getting rid of it because prices are increasing exponentially from a decade to an other (if you ever want to get a synth back). I sold a few sh-101's in the past and the last one I bought was way too expensive. This i...

Re: I enjoy the challenge of simplicity.....

Are you going to play everything in real time or multitrack? Great question! If anything one of my goals for a new project would be to really separate the writing process from the recording process. I would love to get away from the computer screen while writing. I often get too distracted by the a...

I enjoy the challenge of simplicity.....

I've always admired the less-is-more philosophy. I feel having less tools at my disposal has always yielded greater creativity. I'm finishing up a project I started a few months ago and I'm starting to think about what I want to do next. I want a simpler setup. (I know, compared to most of you guys,...

Intense warfare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyGRkFyN-Bk Interesting (albeit slightly unfocused) discussion on what drum machine Prince used for the track here: http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=41&threadid=66654 - sounds like it has those DMX claps to me though. P5 + Doepfer Dark Time

Anyone tried this combo out? Will it even work? I've been thinking about getting a Dark Time for a while now, to play with my Voyager OS and Prophet 5.

Favorite Drum Machine Beat/Pattern

Hey guys, I've started to mess around with the drum machine concept again. Its refreshing to write music against patterns that are rock solid timing wise, and my wife is appreciating the break from hearing my real kit every day! Whats favorite beat you've ever heard in a piece of music (any genre). ...

Re: Prophet 5: myths

Can you gig with a P5? h**l yeah. Should you? h**l no. Why? The P5 sounds incredible. The RE-201 sounds incredible. The Rhodes Mark II sounds incredible. The Voyager Old School sounds incredible. These are my favorite pieces of gear that I own. All of them would be incredibly difficult to replace; h...
