Re: Raffle for minimoog signed by Gary Numan

When Gary Numan appeared on Saturday Night Live in January 1980, there were five Minimoogs in his band (I was surprised that this is not on Youtube, at least I couldn't find it there). Here is Gary Numan's performance of Cars on SNL. I was unable to find a clip of their second song Praying to the Al...

If I won this "legendary sonic superstar," it would be on Ebay the next day.

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

I find all those DSI synths pretty boring, uninspiring, and characterless in terms of tone. It's like they were born already dead. I know that I'm not the only one who think so. Earlier this year, I bought a used Mopho Keyboard with a case for $500 on Ebay. I absolutely love the thing. This thing i...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

Back in the day, I played in a band in which the keyboard player had a Moog Satellite for a brief period of time. I remember him having to bang on it at times in the middle of a song in order to get it to work again. For a keyboard with a famous name on it, it was pretty much a weak sounding piece o...

Like wow man. This site is getting all existential. I spent five hours today contemplating why my opinions are better than the opinions of others. Far out man.

Re: Ultravox Bass Synth and Its Descendants

I always loved that song and that bass sound in particular. I always assumed they were using an early version of the PPG. Those chunky digital/analog hybrid bass sounds are my favorite types of synth bass. Did anybody have any luck coming up with a similar sound on any other synthesizer? I'd be rea...

Re: Ultravox Bass Synth and Its Descendants

And I disagree, i don't see why a Blofeld couldn't make that bass sound. Perhaps. However, in the many Blofeld demos that I listened to, the bass always sounded thin and digital, with no beefiness to it. As ppg_wavecomputer put it in his post above, the sound is more "polite." If someone out there ...

Re: Ultravox Bass Synth and Its Descendants

Mom always tought me to be straight and say what I think. And btw, the fact that I don't like that bass doesn't mean I don't respect your opinion. I just don't think you should dig that deep, bass it's more EQing in the end. If you like that tone, you can make it with almost every f**k synth you na...

Re: Ultravox Bass Synth and Its Descendants

1) I don't hear anything special in that bass sound, so who cares. 2) Yes, I'm absolutely sure, any of those synths could produce that bass sound, but you shouldn't really do that, cause that bass-is s**t. Jabberwalky, thanks for the clip. Hey Philip, didn't your mom teach you to respect the opinio...

Ultravox Bass Synth and Its Descendants

I'm fairly certain that the synth used to create the clanky bass sound in this early 80s Ultravox song was the PPG Wave 2. Ultravox were early users of this synth. The bass kicks in at 0:19: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDqAlVlmBbU I have two questions: 1) Was the PPG used to create this bass soun...

Re: New analog Arturia synth?

Ahhhh. I was waiting for a Maxibrute (as were others), an expanded version of the Minibrute with two (or three) oscillators, a 3-4 octave keyboard, and perhaps a few additional features.

Please Arturia, :beg: forget the mini-keyboard stuff and get going with creating the Maxibrute.
