Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy

I was pretty shocked when I looked up some old YMO tunes. I used to be into that band in the early 80's! It's pretty much straight up Sonic the hedghog-elevator music! Well, it's more accurate to say that Sonic the Hedgehog sounds like YMO. However, much of YMO does not sound like video game music:...

Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy

I was under the impression that it was the rest of the band that pushed to do away with the synths. Apparently poor Alex thought they were burying the guitar. When it comes to synths, who cares about Rush anymore? You can pay a lot of money to go to a Rush concert and hear most of the synth p...

Re: ANOTHER monosynth...oh and an analog drum machine (MFB)

Hmmm? Interesting. Never heard of this manufacturer. I'll be looking for some demos. Finding a synth that you didn't know about is liking finding extra fries at the bottom of your McDonald's bag. This seems like the Leipzig in that it's a synth that not as many people have heard of or own: http://ww...

Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy

Actually you're kind of right. To rephrase what I said earlier, they do use backing tracks, which are Samples that Geddy triggers using his Pedals which are MIDI'd into the Samplers. Not kind of right. Pre-recorded backing tracks are used, and they play along with them. Synth parts, some vocals, an...

Bitexion wrote:...Geddy switched out his entire oldschool system in 1993 with sample based synths, nowadays he basically uses a Roland Fantom X7 and a Moog little phatty.
Nowadays, the keyboard parts are pre-recorded on backing tracks, as are other parts in Rush shows.

Re: Korg MS-20 Mini

It's already been mentioned on this thread, but maybe Korg will manufacture an MS-50 mini down the road to go along withe MS-20 mini. That seems like a good idea. You know that many MS-20 mini owners would shell out $300-400 more to add an accompanying MS-50.

Re: Some thoughts on the Arp Odyssey

I always assumed that Billy was using PPC for all of the modulation on those solo's, but watching some live concert footage I saw that what he was doing was to only add sine wave modulation to VCO 1 using his left hand on the VCO 1 mod slider. - Those solos are what I am referring to when I say tha...

Re: Some thoughts on the Arp Odyssey

I love the sound of the Odyssey. There's nothing quite like it. One synthesist who is associated with the Arp Odyssey is Billy Currie from Ultravox. It was his Odyssey playing that got me hooked on the Odyssey's sound. For example, when the Odyssey kicks in at 4:36 on this Ultravox song, it just has...

A Proggy Christmas

Even though Christmas day is behind us, the Christmas season isn't over yet. Check out this track called Frankincense from Neal Morse's new A Proggy Christmas album. My oh my this is creative. You've never heard Christmas music done like this: http://www.nealmorsefans.com/index.php?option=com_conten...

Progressive Rock Cruise

I stumbled across this online. There will be plenty of synth action next March during this progressive rock cruise: http://cruisetotheedge.com/ After seeing the line up, I was a bit surprised to not see Asia on the list as all four members of Asia will be there performing with other bands, Geoff Dow...

Re: Studiologic Sledge Synthesizer

I never heard of BH Photo. I checked their website. It indicates that the Sledge is "Temporarily out of stock." More than likely, it was never in stock. For someone like me who is not a fan of menu diving, the Sledge is enticing. According to the German Sledge demo, this synth has "3 Chicken-Head-Sc...

Studiologic Sledge Synthesizer

Does anyone know when the Sledge will be available in the states? It is available in Europe, but none of the well known U.S. online stores (Nova Musik, Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, etc.) are currently carrying it. The only demos I have been able to find are from Europe: http://www.youtube.com/watch...

And if that statement shocks you and pisses you off, then you know NOTHING about what happened from 1900-1970.... " It had not one f**k jot to do with looking cool, making people dance, or embracing a pseudo-futuristic aesthetic.... By the the goddamned time Kraftwerk came along, electronic music w...
