Re: Genelec 1029s Studio Monitors

The Mackies are actually pretty good. Those Genelecs are really only good for location work, a studio deserves something bigger. They have trouble with bass. How is your room? Any acoustic treatment? Especially bass traps? That's far more likely to be the reason you have to remix a lot. I don't hav...

Genelec 1029s Studio Monitors

So a friend of mine is thinking of getting rid of his pair of Genelec 1029a monitors, and I am thinking of picking them up. They are in great shape, as he is very anal with gear. My current monitors are Mackie MR5 (make 1). I've had them for over 10 years, and I tend to have to do inordinate amount ...

Re: Yamaha RS7000 or Roland MC909 for sequencing other synth

The MC-303 is notorious for losing synch when the sequences get too busy...that means not only lots of notes, but lots of controls being tweaked. This actually can be a problem for many hardware sequencers, which is why it's common to strip out unwanted controller data (aftertouch being the big one...

Re: Yamaha RS7000 or Roland MC909 for sequencing other synth

Not sure if it applies to the MC-909, but my friends MC-303 constantly falls out of time and is very noticeable. I know the 909 is major upgrade from the 303 though. So maybe they fixed the problem? Although, my Fantom FA-76, which came out around the same time, also falls out of sync. Maybe we both...

Do you think they worth the price Karma-Lab is charging for them? $30 a piece or $99 for all four?

Re: Harold Faltermeyer (80's, Beverly Hills cop, Fletch etc.

From what I understand he did the blip-bloppy "water drops" (or "footsteps") on the Roland system 100m. You can see him working on that sound in this video clip https://youtu.be/PkQUzbeguUM?t=5140 (note the system 700 to the left). In the same clip he's seen programming the lead line on the Jup-8 h...

Re: Waldorf Quantum - new 8 voice hybrid poly

I really like this. As said, the sound is maybe nothing revolutionary, but I could seriously downsize my studio. This could easily take the place of 2-3 of my current synths. I thought is sounded pretty cool with the parallel filters going too. I wonder if they will make a rack version?

Re: One synth songs

Does it have to be original work or do covers count? I did a Futurepop/EBM cover of New Order's True Faith on Virus TI2....don't want to post it if it doesn't fit the "rules."

Re: What should I buy?? (Synth players/Industrial Music)

Access has a set of Icon of Coil patches, Tom Shear had some of his Assemblage 23 patches up, i still have those. How are the Tom Shear ones? Worth looking into or not? They're decent. Several are actually patches from older A23 songs. ....hmmm, if they are patches from old songs perhaps I don't ne...

Re: What should I buy?? (Synth players/Industrial Music)

yeah i was originally going to start up a huge list but decided meh. in this genre... lots of bands use one. Assemblage 23, VNV, Icon of Coil, Combichrist, Komor Kommando, etc etc etc... True....and if I'm not mistaken doesn't Access have patches available created by Icon of Coil? Also, I thought s...

Re: What should I buy?? (Synth players/Industrial Music)

I saw Stevie Wonder using one as well. Also bands like the Deftones and composers like Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman (2 of my favorites btw) have also used them as well. So definitely versitle! :D

Re: Wavestation Hardware vs. Wavestation Software Synths

Not at all just one advantage -- the second is the the compatibility and usability with anything which has MIDI. ANd this is most important as I use retro sequencing system by choice as I love it. ...and You skipped the line where I stressed the compatibility need. BEcouse what is the use of all th...

Re: Sound Engineering Techniques for Dance Music

hard limiting... thats bad. I thought that the commercial stations were using dbx encoding by mistake with J17 emphasis becouse of the killed dynamics and too sharp levels. :D :D This is precisely why I hate the way music is produced today. Pop music on the radio and even many EBM/Industrial bands ...
