Re: "The pre-MIDI era" questions

Yes there will be no trace because the M Audio sends out MIDI clock to the other devices, not FSK. FSK is what's put on tape. So read the manual for the M Audio too... dbx doesn't "tend" to do anything. Its function is actually quite specific. It reduces tape noise for audio signals and does that q...

Re: "The pre-MIDI era" questions

By the way, the MT4X doesn't accept MIDI clock, although it does have a switch to disable dbx NR on track 4, so you can record FSK, smart FSK or SMPTE tone. You have disabled NR on the sync track, right? yes of course, as dbx tends to makes things not working like the fsk signal can't be correctly ...

Re: Destroy your Synth-Pop idols

8. New Order - These guys suck. They overused string machines, and lived in abandoned factories. They did a cover of Orgy's "Blue Monday" which is incredibly long, and repetitive. Tony Wilson's favorite band. I hope they go first. i hope it's just a provocation...  (anyway that orgy...

Re: "The pre-MIDI era" questions

Well, you have an MT4X, right? That accepts midi clock. You need to record it to one channel in the first run, then send it out from there again. this is ok for me as i said before, in fact i tried it with success 5 years ago. Now for some reasons my "fsk sync system" (midiman smartsync, zoom mrs4,...

Re: "The pre-MIDI era" questions

have you got some cheap hardwares or free softwares to advice that do mtc or smpte? i remember that Midi Ox (maybe Cool Edit too)can receive those signals but, on the other hand, i don't know if you can send them via a soundcard with this soft; also, do 4tracks recorders accept smpte?

Re: "The pre-MIDI era" questions

The FSK box is the master, sending out MIDI clock (ok it's a bit more complicated than that but no need to get into it here). So the other gear needs to be set to receive MIDI clock. Roland/ Boss never make it straightforward to set that up... so you might need to read the manual. i don't know, the...

Re: "The pre-MIDI era" questions

Try making a track with a cassette four track, FSK-sync, and a variety of cheap a*s synths and drum machines, limited to no FX and see if you can get it to sound good! No? No, I couldn't either, back in the day... :D 5 years ago i bought a Midiman Smartsync box to read fsk signals (now Midiman is M...

Re: micrco Q vs blofeld

Many expert friends of mine said the microQ over the blofeld by far. Some of them said to me that with the blofeld Waldorf tried to ressamble Microwave+microQ characteristics but without their personality... I don't know if it counts but the microQ got a IN to filter the sound (don't know if the blo...
