Re: Power supply conversion from 100V to 230V.

Actually, it's the same on 240V circuits in the USA, which is why the circuit breaker for the house circuits powering the clothes dryer, range, etc. is a double-pole rather than a single-pole. I think you're getting the terminology mixed up, neutral isn't ever tied to ground, the earth pin is. As I...

Re: Power supply conversion from 100V to 230V.

My theory would be that it would've been because of tighter regulations in the EU - switching the active *and* the neutral is safer than simply switching the active. Hence the need for a DPST. Basically correct, however for what it's worth -- in Europe, both lines are active and there is no "neutra...

Re: SP-1200 Rear Questions

SMPTE coding is essentially a kind of clock signal where every 'tick' contains a complete statement of 'what time it is.' Each 'tick' is either 1/30th of a second or 1/24th of a second, depending on which flavor you use (television vs. film). (There are also a couple more-exotic flavors, e.g. drop-f...

Re: SP-1200 Rear Questions

What was the connection flow for it all? They were also 1/4 inch jacks too? For the SMPTE out on the SP-12/1200, it's line-level output from what I remember. I don't recall if the SP-12 had an output level control, but I'm pretty sure I ran the SP-12 output to one of my mixer channel line-level inp...

Re: SP-1200 Rear Questions

Right...think of SMTPE as similar to MIDI time code (actually the latter was somewhat based on the former) but output as an audio signal that could be recorded onto one channel of a multi-track tape machine, then fed back into the SP1200 to sync things up as you recorded additional tracks. Click tra...

Re: Electronic Albums of the 50's + 60's

Nice list, but to put Switched-On Bach in the "See Also" list (as a sub-mention to the Nonesuch Guide) seems kinda strange. Yeah, I understand that the authors might have wanted to highlight some lesser-known works, but come on.

Re: American Airlines Wurlitzer

Upon further reflection (recalling that this was before airline deregulation) "coach lounge" on a 747 luxuryliner was probably equivalent to first-class today.

I like how in the video advertisement, it was in fact the sound of a Wurly in the audio track. Kudos for authenticity!

Re: American Airlines Wurlitzer

Did anyone else notice that this was in the COACH lounge? As opposed to the real grand (?) they had in the first-class lounge?

Re: When will we see a new (non-DSI) analog poly?

When polys first became popular, it was much harder to achieve time synchronization when multitracking a mono than it is today. Face it, if you want to play a chord, it's more feasible to hit all the notes on your keyboard at the same time (poly) than it is to hit those notes individually in multipl...

They discontinued the Poly Evolver rack a couple years ago, right? So this is not too surprising.

Yeah...supply and demand I guess. Too bad there's something weird holding down the supply.

Re: Wendy Carlos/"Switched-On Bach" Available for Download??

I see that for the price of just the SOB album, you can almost get the SOB box set used on Amazon. Worth considering, like I said just to get all six Brandenbergs but the other material is great too. There must have been some mistake on the listing, because all I can see is a box set at over $250 a...

Re: Polysix Repair

Sometimes after the repair problems can happen due to the acid in the board. Exactly, that's why I ultimately went with a clone of the PC board. Read too many accounts of further issues caused by the gook soaking into the board and then migrating to other areas of the board over time. Depends on th...
