Re: anyone else like wurly/rhodes/clavinet/organ here?

I have a 1980 Rhodes Mk II and a Wurly 200 and love the sound of both. For me, using samples of either would be way too sterile -- the actual instruments have a "liveness" and randomness that completely disappears when using samples. I love the sound of a Hammond B3 but don't own one. The only synth...

Re: Korg DW8000 issues

The theory about a spike on the line causing the UPS to reset, has some validity. If the DW is truly shorting out the mains input (as opposed to just causing a spike on the line that causes the UPS to reset), it's most likely the primary winding of the power transformer in the DW that will be the cu...

Wow -- that's so sharp and clear it almost looks as if you'd photoshopped in a graphic in place of the display. Congrats!

Re: Poll: how do you feel about pirated/cracked DAW software

It would be interesting to compare the results of this survey to one like "Do you listen to MP3 tracks that were illegally downloaded, or do you only listen to tracks that you've legally obtained?" While the monetary amounts per unit are different, the thinking and rationalization behind people's ac...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

Another Roland U-110 vote here. The tail end of anything with a mid-to-long decay was so grainy and full of artifacts that I took it back to the store later the same day. Thought mine might have just been defective, until I played another one at the store and found it identical. I couldn't believe a...

Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy

Actually, the tumble dryers are there because Geddy didn't wanna use regular bass amps, he'd jack into the in-house speaker system to get a better sound out, so they'd replace the bass amp wall with random items instead. When I saw them on the Snakes and Arrows tour, it was rotisserie chicken machi...

Re: Low impedance Caps for PSU

I looked at the specs and those should be fine. "Low impedance" on an electrolytic cap means that it has been designed to lessen the high impedance at higher frequencies that electrolytics typically have (because the electrodes are long strips of foil rolled into a spiral coil). This high-impedance ...

Re: What to do with a vintage synth studio (Not a music guy)

Just an FYI, PayPal now submits information to the IRS for yearly transactions that exceed $20K. If you sold pieces individually on eBay, you could get as much as $20K for all of it, but have to pay income tax on top of the 8-10% selling fees to EBay and 3-4% transaction fees to PayPal. That would ...

Re: Cleaning mouse piss off a PCB?

Can you elaborate on DI water and how it's corrosive? I'm an analytical chemist and DI is certainly not considered corrosive in our world. I wasn't aware of this either but googling "di water corrosion" yielded quite a few links. Apparently the water is so "clean" that it aggressively dissolves man...
