Re: Full circle. Interested what your choices would be.

Hmmm...interesting. Are we talking with cost being no object? In my case, I have only two keyboard synths anyway, a Yamaha SY77 and a Korg DSS-1. I'd probably stick with them. They're both really good synths and they compliment each other pretty well. If cost is no object I might trade in one of the...

Re: TB-303 use in pop/rock music?

I know the 303 and the Jupiter 8 were used together, especially on Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat by Charanjit Singh. Anybody know if they were ever doubled with each other for bass purposes? Seems like that could produce something both powerful and...however you'd describe the 303's sound. :D

Re: TB-303 use in pop/rock music?

Thanks to all of you! Listened to "Let the Music Play" and that's definitely a 303. I wish more pop/rock acts had added that rubbery sound to their bass section. There's always hope though. One of the main reasons the TB-303 failed as a bass machine as intended was that it lacked adequate low-end. ...

TB-303 use in pop/rock music?

I apologize in advance---I think this topic has already been started somewhere, but I just had an appendectomy and really don't feel like searching the site. I was just wondering how much use the Roland TB-303 has had in genres of music other than what it's best known for. I know Orange Juice's "Rip...

Re: Best synth basslines of all time?

The Beach Boys' "It's OK" probably won't come up as a suggestion from anyone else, because they're not known for being a synth-y group and it wasn't a huge hit, and the bass line is buried a little bit in the mix. I like it, though, because it shows that synth bass can blend nicely with guitars, dru...

Re: Best synth basslines of all time?

On that note, what's the bassline from "It's My Life" from? IIRC it sounds kind of DX-ish and it's about the same time frame... It's a bass guitar played by Paul Webb. Check out a live version (e.g. the one in Montreux). http://youtu.be/Rbwz532EQw8 Huh. Sometimes it's the most obvious answer, I gue...

Re: Best synth basslines of all time?

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned though it is a sample from Meat Beat Manifesto"s Radio Babylon. First heard this in a club and felt like my head blew out the back and across the wall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjQqYFNK50M Other favs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ePIZugahFc As much...

Is he under contract to only use Korg synths, or something like that?

Re: Roland Gaia SH-01 vs. Korg R3 vs. Novation Ultranova

Also the Ultranova has light-up blue mod wheels, which I think are freakin' sweet for some reason. (I don't have one but would probably choose one over the other two. It seems more user-friendly and has a good variety of different sounds. It can be both a VA and a regular digital-ish polysynth.)

Re: I Can See Clearly Now

Hi, first post.... I've been on an early '70's AM kick (when and where I first really started getting into music) and was thinking of this song and how much I love the synthesizer in it. This page came up in a search, so as a vintage synth lover, I had to register and comment. Thanks to Micke for t...

Re: Some songs with a DX7 "print"

Also, incidentally, as notable and iconic and obvious (when played alone) as the DXano sound is, it's oftentimes either buried deep in a mix or combined with other piano sounds (e.g., with an acoustic piano for "L.A. Piano" sound). In one of the songs mentioned on that page, for instance (Chicago's ...

Re: Some songs with a DX7 "print"

Hi Here is a link to great music that used DX7. http://bobbyblues.recup.ch/yamaha_dx7/dx7_examples.html Cheers They all used DX7 but not all of them are so DX7-ish as to have the "print." When I think of songs with obvious DX7 usage, I think of Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" and A-ha's "Take On Me,...

Re: Yet another "desert-island synths" game

It has one voice - with 4 oscillators - so it is monophonic (minimoog, for example, has one voice with three oscillators, and is monophonic, Pro 1 has one voice with two oscillators, and is monophonic, ....). I accept it has a paraphonic mode and chord memory - but - it only has one VCF, one VCA, a...
