Re: Yet another "desert-island synths" game

If you could pick pretty much every synth that was ever made, what would you choose? I'm not sure what the point of this is. Isn't the whole 'desert island' premise usually based on the idea that you need to make some hard decisions and leave out some amazing stuff for some particular reason? Most ...

*This* I'd love to see.

If only once, that is.

Re: Yet another "desert-island synths" game

A genie comes out of your Coors Light. After a hearty belch, he introduces himself as the Synth Genie. He says, "This could be a blessing or a curse to you. You are to choose a collection of synths according to the parameters I give. They will always work reliably, and you will always have room to ...

Also, I'll add to that the Access Virus TI Snow.

Re: What is the sexiest looking synth of all time?

There are too many to choose from for me to pick a best-looking ever, but I do think that, overall, Roland has the most consistently good-looking of any individual company. In my opinion, the Jupiter 8, SH-101, TB-303, JX-3P, D50, JD-800, SP-808, V-Synth, and the touch-screen sampler/drum machine co...

Re: Help Finding/Naming Synth?

Hi folks, New here but it looks as though you may be able to help me in my quest for this synth sound! It's found in the right channel of this song at 1:42. It has a swelling sound to it but I can't seem to figure out what it is or get a rough idea of how to replicate it. I've messed with some modu...

Re: Roland Jupiter 8 vs. Studio Electronics Omega 8

I think the reason no one is responding to this is that there can't be too many of us who have played (much less owned) both. They're both very expensive, and my guess is that the sort of person who would buy the Jupiter 8 is not the sort of person who would buy the Omega 8, and vice versa. There w...

Roland Jupiter 8 vs. Studio Electronics Omega 8

Both 8-voice-polyphonic analogs but otherwise pretty different. Which do you think is better and why?

Re: Favorite use of the Synclavier?

Can't believe nobody else has said this yet, but...

"Beat It" by Michael Jackson, the seven notes in the intro. It was a preset voice but it stood out so much and still does today. That's one of my favorite synth sounds ever---my SY77 can do a very good impression of it too!

Re: What synth is this?!

I'm about 90-95% sure that's a Fairlight. The clip was shot at the same place (presumably Herbie's home studio) and around the same time as the Sesame Street clip where he teaches kids how his Fairlight works, and the keyboard he's playing is set up at the same spot in the studio as in the Sesame St...

SY Manager

Hey, I'm considering buying SY Manager to help me organize and sort my 300+ SY77 patch banks. I have the free version 2, which is Windows-only and was published in 1999. I'm wondering if it's worth paying $25 to upgrade to the current version. I have a few questions for those of you who have used it...

Re: (Solved) MIDI to USB cables

So I bought one of these things on ebay: http://image.dhgate.com/albu_253002783_00-1.0x0/usb-to-midi-keyboard-interface-converter.jpg & I found out that these things don't have the standard midi circuiting http://www.arvydas.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/usb-midi-schematic-500x346.png So apparen...
