Re: Dual problems with SY77

Fixed it for him. The solder joints for the 5 VDC power header pins coming off the power supply board going to the DM1 board needed reflowing. Were cracked in the usual manner from age. Needed a 10x glass to see it though. ^This guy. He's the best. Just needed some more solder, but, as he mentioned...

Re: Dual problems with SY77

I feel very overwhelmed here. I don't even know how to figure out what the problem is, much less fix it. Are there any common diagnostic procedures for an SY77?

So, the yellow thing is the battery, and the thing with the red box around it is the CN115? Thanks, that saves some time.

[[SOLVED]] Dual problems with SY77

I have an SY77. I've had it for six years and it's been very reliable for the most part. There's a pair of problems that come up occasionally; they usually don't last for more than a few minutes, but they recurred a few days ago and haven't yet gone away. The first is that the display doesn't...well...

Re: Songs with Casio or Yamaha keyboards?

Easy: "Da Da Da (I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me)" by Trio. Uses a Casio VL-1 for the rhythm. The VL-1 (super-cheap monophonic analog synth) and SK-1 (super-cheap sampling keyboard) were both widely used, but I can't think specifically of other songs that used them.

Re: Yamaha DX7 line VS Yamaha SY77

SY77, no comparison. It has a filter, a sequencer, samples, and the ability to have AFM voices and samples modulate each other! I have over 100 SY77 banks and over 70 DX7 banks converted to SY format; no, I'm sure they don't sound exactly the same as on the DX, but the SY77 is somewhat backwards-com...

Analog FM

I know that the vast majority of FM synths have been digital, and that due to the improved stability and precision this is considered ideal for FM synthesis. However, I was just wondering if there have been any widely-released true analogs that used FM synthesis beyond the relatively-simple 2-op ver...

Songs that blended synth-bass and bass guitar

I believe that the best way to get a super-fat bass sound is to blend an analogue or hybrid synth bass patch with a bass guitar, and I know it's been done in the studio before. I was just wondering if you guys knew of any specific songs, and what synths were used on those songs. One I know offhand i...

Re: Versatile, warm analogue polysynths?

Doesn't seem to be all that popular, but I quite like the sound of the Oberheim Matrix 6. Both the keyboard and rack sell for around $500. I'd also look at the Ensoniq ESQ-1. The oscillators are digital but the rest is analog. Very nice sounding, very flexible, and very cheap. (Got mine for $150 sh...

Re: Unique sounds and/or synthesis

Triadex Muse---first digital sequencer; can make its own "light show" if you have the right parts (that is weird). I own one of these rare contraptions, and the "light show" pretty much makes the thing. I don't know exactly why, but having those colored lights flashing along with the bleeps and blo...

Re: .syx to .Txx

When I have everything hooked up properly and click "Play" on SysEx Librarian, the keyboard just says "ERROR: MIDI DATA ERROR." Maybe the guy sold me a faulty bank?

Re: .syx to .Txx

OK. As I said earlier, there are some USB MIDI cords that can't handle sysex. The lights on the cable are flashing as if it were hard at work. Guess it's possible though. One thing I've noticed is that the program (whether it's SysEx Librarian or C6) makes me select "Port 1" or "Port 2" as the send...

Re: Moog Mother 32 Eurorack synth voice

Haha, when I first read the title of this thread, I thought 32 meant 32-voice polyphonic. I'd love a 32-voice-polyphonic, true-analog Moog. Not even sure if that would be allowed by the laws of physics, but whatever.
