Re: For the sad day when my DX7 battery dies....
When I bought mine it read 2.8V too. After more than three years it reads 3.0V. I use my DX7 quite frequently and the battery seems to be recharging itself.

Re: Don't sell your f**k gear!
Years ago I sold an ESQ1 and I miss the sounds I could make with the choir waves. I also sold a Yamaha CS2x which I don't miss at all - it was a 'wannabe' synth in every aspect. These days I only make well informed and justified buys, so I don't plan to sell anything.

Re: Unique Synth arrangement
Awesome performance. To be honest, in the synth world any genuine live performance is a rare gem but this one was extraordinary.

Re: Hardware vs. Software: Debate #71598374
Its pointless to say whether anything has the sonic edge without saying what this sonic edge means to you. For example, does FM8 have a sonic edge over DX7? As long as they sound different, there will be someone who prefers the software and someone who chooses the hardware. Even harder it is to say ...

Re: Clap sounds with synths
I think solderman's sound was pretty clappy. The other examples are nice but sound more like a snare. It seems bandpass filtering, filter resonance and audio rate modulation somewhere in the audio chain are the key elements.

Re: Clap sounds with synths
I used a freeware softsynth called Synth1 and I got a clap sound by using: OSC1: Square Wave PW 80% OSC2: Noise OSC1/OSC2 mix ratio 80/20 FM knob at about 2 o'clock Amp ADSR: Fast attack and decay, no sustain, fast release Filter ADSR: the same as above but decay about 3 times faster than the amplit...

Re: How do you listen to your synth when programming?
It seems most of you use monitors. I don't have a dedicated studio and have to limit the noisy and unmusical 'side effects' of programming - that's my primary reason for the use of the headphones. But they also help with nuances in the sounds. While we're at it, how do you feel about your family hea...

How do you listen to your synth when programming?
Hi VSE, I've got a poll for you. How do you monitor your synths while programming new sounds? I've noticed that my synth programming has improved since I started to use my speakers to make the adjustments to the sounds. I used to make satisfying patches that sounded good through the headphones. Howe...
