Re: U-He DIVA

Yep, it's bogus. Just tried it again. I'm not saying people can't get good sounds out of it. I know that some very very talented sound designers can make nearly any VSTi sound good. I like ACE, I like Zebra, I like Zebralette. So I'm not criticizing u-He. They have skills to make excellent stuff, an...

Re: U-He DIVA

I'll give it another try, but all I hear is conformist hype for the most part. I'm interested in synths that can make a huge variety of new and unusual sounds as well as standards. Regular boring conventional waveforms is not the way to get there. I don't care if it's an antique or not. And I don't ...

Re: U-He DIVA

Since people but the Arturia softsynths (have two myself) and people have bought the Origin hardware as well, i don't see how it can be perceived as 'limited' Limited oscillators for one. That was the biggest turn off for me. But all you have to do is deconstruct the synthesis architecture of it an...

Re: Why so subtractive?

A lot of modern wavetable and PCM synthesis VSTi synths ARE subtractive as well (they have filters).

Yeah I like ZynAddSubFX too. I left it off the list since it seems really buggy on my XP SP3 system.

Re: U-He DIVA

I like the concept but its' way too limited to me. I think a lot of people will be disappointed with it in the long run after all the smoke/hype clears.

Re: Recording and mixing with headphones..

Good advice in here. The other guys already said it. Start with monitors, check with headphones, go back to monitors, fix it up, etc.

Nothing more to add but...

The acoustics of headphones (two separate enclosed spaces) will always be tricky.

Re: What are your favorite free synth VSTs?

I like the Kore Player freebies, but the geniuses at Native-Instruments totally discontinued it even though they were selling good soundpacks for it.

Some other good ones:

SQ8L
Alieno
Triangle II
Azeta66
TAL synths

Short Circuit and HighLife samplers

Re: just me? or do youtube demos all suck

I tend to agree with the original poster. A lot of YouTube demo videos do suck, and it seems like more of them suck to me than ones that don't suck. Even some organized reviews or offical product demos or NAMM demos suck. But it is a joy to find the ones that don't suck. They make YouTube worth it. ...

Re: Tricorder--Cheerful and Happy--Free Download

Ah, it should be about 4 minutes long. I guess your download corrupted. I'll check my soundcloud account to make sure. But thanks for listening and commenting. It could benefit from some bass enhancement and I started to try and boost up the bass, but my EQ efforts all sounded worse than the origina...

Re: Software for linux/ what to do with an old win98 gateway

I'm using an old Gateway Select 750 as an internet computer. It is really rugged and strong even though it's slow. The RAM isn't even maxxed out yet and it's good. It has TONS of PCI slots. It was made in 2000. It's currently running Windows XP SP3 and is firewalled and all that. Before that I used ...

Cool vintage analog drum machine samples

A really nice guy at KVR posted this link to his website of vintage analog drum machine samples. http://waveshaper.12r.org/ The free packs are mono and fewer samples. The pay packs are inexpensive and are stereo, better quality and more samples. Most of the samples have been processed to enhance them.

Re: i know you hate behringer...

I don't hate Behringer. I've got two FBQ800's. One for my headphones, and one for my speakers. People say you shouldn't try to EQ your room, but I had a really obnoxious resonance in my room around 156 Hz and I was able to successfully tweek my setup to sound a lot more natural. And my headphones do...
