Re: Making live drum loop sound like breakbeat/vinyl quality

If you need stuff to sound chopped, try using a noise gate with many adjustable settings (hold, attenuation, attack, etc). most samples are slightly muffled too. this is because frequency range of gear has gone up since the 60s. Bass extension has also increased over the years. So EQ and filter a lo...

Re: Bells, Chimes and other similar resonant sounds

Maybe create two different patches, one low and one high, and crossfade between them in your DAW.

Ouiji Skateboarder (better mix now)

I went back and spruced this up a little bit. I hope you enjoy it. Download it if you do like it.

Re: What is the best FREEWARE for Pads?

Hey thanks Nogginj for telling me about ZynAddSubFX. I finally got it working today in Reaper. It crashes a bit and seems to hog CPU, but the sound quality is exactly what I'm looking for. I think/hope I can make it work. For the other pad sounds, I settled on Toxic Biohazard and Kore Play...

Re: Just for fun...

Thanks. I already deleted the multitracks for this one (a bad habit of mine). But I'll see if I can do a subtle overdub of something to thicken up the drums. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Just for fun...

This is a little bit repetitive but it's kind of fun...

You can download it if you like.

Re: Differences in saw waves between synths

If I had any programming skills, I'd try to put my efforts into making EDITABLE oscillator shapes. But that's just me. i'm sick of the common waveforms. But this is still an interesting topic.

Re: What are your recording OCD's

To me there's nothing more disappointing than getting stems to do a remix of something and discovering the tempo is 120 or some other number rounded to 10. I probably shouldn't tell you that almost all of my tracks are at exactly 80 or 96 BPM then. I did it intentionally so that making music videos...

Re: What is the best FREEWARE for Pads?

ZynAddSubFX actually did have some quality mellow sounds, but the interface choked. I couldn't get it to work in any of my DAWs but it did work in SAVIhost. Oh well... onward... I'll keep trying other things.

Re: What are your recording OCD's

* i color code my tracks to be like a repeating rainbow. weird but true. * when editing reverb and delay decay times, i like them to be whole numbers of seconds instead of fractions. * when editing element amplitudes, I like to work in whole decibel steps, especial multiples of 3 and 4 dB. * when pa...

Hmmmm, the GUI scares me to death, but I'll give it a try. Some of the demo sounds are real nice. Thanks

Re: What is the best FREEWARE for Pads?

Thanks Toad, the interface bugs me but some of the sounds I'm looking for are there, but editing them is not so easy. I've been looking at Toxic Biohazard (not freeware) and the interface is a lot easier to use. There is a file browser that allows searching by name, so I can just type "pad" and all ...

Re: Soundcards and CD ripping...

Ripping speed might theoretically affect the number of errors, but they probably wouldn't even be audible. An exception might be the starting or end times of a track being slightly shifted too early or too late. But I'm not 1000% sure of this. The EAC (exact audio copy) freeware explored a lot of th...

Re: What is the best FREEWARE for Pads?

I actually specifically want to avoid using reverb for pads. i feel that a good pad should sound good on it's own without reverb. I really don't like the sound of reverb; it makes everything sound like it's locked inside of a huge factory. I like my reverbs sounding close and full, not cold and dist...
