Re: Minibrute Vs. Microbrute

Thanks to everyone for the input, some good points for each side. As it turns out, I am convinced that the universe wants me to have both. lol I put in an offer on a Microbrute on Ebay today and it was accepted... $215. I figure I really can't go wrong for that price. So I'm going to see which one I...

Minibrute Vs. Microbrute

I have a Minibrute but I'm trying to decide if I might want to also pick up a Microbrute. So, the Micro has the sequencer and the patch points but loses a few controls and gains a couple of other controls (as I understand it). But now I've seen that someone modded the Minibrute with a breakout box w...

Re: Small sampler. MPX8?

Two that I can vouch for:

Zoom ST-224
Boss/Roland SP-505

Re: New stuff from Roland!

Well, I can't really afford the new Elektron box and I'd like to get a drum synthesizer with more controls than an ER-1. So if this is done right and priced right, sounds just fine to me. Don't even care if it's VA instead of analog, it actually just means that it's more likely to be in my price ran...

Re: Akai MPX8 "Sample Player" Teardown

Very cool thread! I don't know much at all when it comes to bending and stuff like that but how likely do you think it would be that an overdrive knob or switch could be added? I use mine strictly as a drum module and that would just be amazing. In any case, looking forward to anything you find here...

Re: Yamaha SU700 questions

I haven't tried controlling the groove parameters via midi but I am pretty sure that it wouldn't work. Likewise with triggering sampling externally because I believe that hitting play on the Electribe would simply be like hitting play on the SU's sequencer. But really, you shouldn't need to do that ...

Re: Yamaha SU700 questions

Mine had the ram when I bought it, so I never needed to. But I suppose if it were me, I would just hit up Ebay and take my chances. Otherwise, maybe if you have an old PC you could take it out of?

Re: Yamaha SU700 questions

I just checked mine and, unfortunately, it looks like the groove functions are the only parameters that can't be controlled by the ribbon. But definitely, the ribbon does provide a nice workaround for all of the other ones. I was just gonna say, you'll definitely want the SCSI board. I found it to b...

Re: Yamaha SU700 questions

I haven't had to do mine yet. But the VSE page for the SU has a comment right at the top that tells what kind of encoders will work. From there, just a bit of soldering, it would seem.

Did you get a SCSI board or in/out board with your SU?

Re: Suggestions for a small line mixer to connect my synths?

I snagged myself one of these for $30. Very simple, just for combining a few sounds sources to run into one sampler. No power needed, very convenient.

Re: NAMM 2014 thread of broken dreams

Moog Volca Killer. That would be a great band name! lol I would love to see someone do an all-analog or at least an all-v/a groovebox that doesn't cost as much as a Spectralis. I know, there's the Monotribe, but I'm talking full featured with sampling and everything. Love my MC-909 for several diff...

Re: SP-808 - Anyone have a working card reader in theirs?

I agree, it really isn't worth dropping a couple of hundred bucks on that one mythical reader that works. And besides, in about 8 years, I've only seen the IISDMC pop up on Ebay ONE time. I took a shot this week and ordered a PCMCIA reader that is hot-swappable and a CF adapter. Fingers crossed on t...

Re: SP-808 - Anyone have a working card reader in theirs?

Yep, running EX with a 250mb drive. I mean, as a sampler, it's it works great. I can store a huge number of samples, the actual sampling process is super easy and I have no problem triggering samples from the pads in real time. It's just when I try to automate things a bit by triggering the pads fro...

Re: SP-808 - Anyone have a working card reader in theirs?

Actually, I've never had a zip disk fail on me so, for me, it's not that. My problem with the 808 is the "disk busy" error. I'll record on only 3 of the tracks and it will give the error and the audio will cut out. More or less cripples the machine for multitracking. I've used 100, 250 and 750mb zip...

SP-808 - Anyone have a working card reader in theirs?

Been discussed to death over the years and of course there is the rare IISDMC reader that is confirmed to work. But what about other solutions? Anyone have their 808 upgraded with anything besides Zip? I noticed that some magneto optical drives seem like they might have the correct specs. Anyone tri...
