Re: Jonesing for an Oberheim Matrix 1000

Hi, Not that anyone cares but I figured I'd post a follow-up to my earlier comments about the Matrix 6r that was noisy and randomly rebooting. I tore the thing apart to have a look inside. To my surprise it appears that the battery had been replaced and that whoever did the job didn't bother to sold...

Re: Jonesing for an Oberheim Matrix 1000

Hmm, that's interesting and depressing. My Matrix 6r has recently started rebooting randomly and the noise coming out when it's working is pretty hissy. Could be the same problem? .... Hissy noise is usually an indication of failing opamps, transformers rarely completely fail so I would have someon...

Re: Jonesing for an Oberheim Matrix 1000

Couple things to know (I owned one for a while): B) A large number of these have transformers that have aged and leak magnetic flux resulting in a brutal hum from the chassis. No fix that I have heard of works short of replacing the transformer which is not anything close to common Hmm, that's inte...

Re: What was the cheapest Synth you ever bought?

I'm a little embarrassed to admit a few of these. But I figure in our age of instant information, if you can't take 10 seconds to type "Ensoniq TS-10" into Google or Ebay then you deserve to let some guy walk out with that old keyboard for $30. Same goes for the guy who sold me the Juno 106 for $50,...

Re: Let's Dissect Geddy Lee's Use of Synthesizers; '82 - 84'

Awesome thread guys. I'm another Rush fan who got into keyboards as a result of the Moving Pictures era music. I never researched Geddy's gear until much later. Which is a bummer considering how much I wasted on dumb romplers when I could've been getting great vintage stuff for cheap when it was out...

Re: Ensoniq TS-Series

Hi ya'll. Just thought I'd throw this out there for the other TS owners. In case you have any interest in maxing out your sequencer here's a relatively cheap way to do it. I bought the generic upgrade chips off ebay from a guy in china. They arrived pretty fast and worked perfectly. (This isn't my a...

Re: Android Tablet and Midi Controller?

Android doesn't have a midi implementation yet. From what I've read there might not be one for a while. the iOS 4.2 will have a midi back end. I have a Droid X and the music creation software is basically non-existent. There's one wireless midi control app that's cool (youtube: fingerplay). Unfortun...

Shipping Keyboards and other big, heavy things

Howdy, I'm about to dump a few unused boards on ebay. I've never shipped anything that large before, what advise do you guys have for shipping a big keyboard? I've got a DX7IIfd, an Elka Rhapsody and an old Sony reel-to-reel that weighs about 130#s. Also, who to ship through? USPS, UPS, FedEx, freig...

Re: Ensoniq TS-Series

I'm a long-time lurker, this thread got me to register :) I recently picked up a TS10 for spare change and have set out to familiarize myself. My first impression is that it sounds amazing. Stock patches are too 'Romplery' but I can hear the potential. My gripe is that I spent an entire evening tryi...

Re: Yamaha DX7S internal battery nightmare!

I'm not sure I have much advice to give, but my knowledge of electronics is infantile at best. I replaced the battery in my DX7II shortly after I purchased it, in fact I ended up doing it several times because of mistakes on my part. I tried replacing it with the little battery holder and that was a...
