Re: Roland JD-800/D-50 card compatible?

That's what I figured, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. With patch names like "Biting the Mailman," "Binary Dreamgirl," and "Sugarplum Bum" I'm thinking this is too interesting to pass up. I might get it and then invest in a D-50 later.

Roland JD-800/D-50 card compatible?

Can a Roland JD-800 read a D-50 PCM/CIA ROM card? There is a very interesting D-50 ROM card with some very peculiarly named patches on eBay right now. I have a JD-800 but not a D-50. Thanks.

E-Mu E4X Turbo stuck mounting SCSI 7

My E-Mu E4X Turbo is stuck at "Mounting SCSI Drive 7." I was able to update the firmware from 4.01 to 4.62, but the boot still halts at mounting drive 7 which is fixed as a Macintosh. There are no devices connected to the external SCSI. Should there be a terminator on the back of the E4X? Since it i...

Re: ISO Minisoftmusik Extractor

Thanks, very much. I'd forgotten about the Wayback machine. The people who run it don't get paid enough. I've been trying to dig into the exe with various compressors and decompressors. It doesn't run at all. Windows says it isn't a valid win32 application and dosbox says it won't run in dos mode. E...

ISO Minisoftmusik Extractor

Does anyone have a copy of Minisoftmusik Extractor additive VST? I have looked all over the net and have found only one purported copy on a Russian site, but it appears to be a DOS exe that I have yet to figure how to open. (It was a UPX but that only released a larger exe that defies analysis.) Min...

Re: "Lucky Star" Bass-line

I opened this topic expecting, surprisingly, some discussion of Motteke! Sailor Fuku! Why am I surprised that the result was actually more mundane? And, no, there is not a single iota of anything about Madonna that interests me in the least.

Re: Analog sampler?

Back to laser storage, I refer to a Wired article: http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2005/10/69033 Scientists at Australian National University in Canberra were able to fire a laser bearing a discreet signal (information) into a crystal where the light speed was slowed dramatically. The ...

Re: Analog sampler?

Of course, there would have to be amplification and reamplification, but with care signal degradation could be negligible.

Re: Analog sampler?

I like rhino's idea of an analog magnetic recording platter. It doesn't look as if anyone is manufacturing anything like that. The closest thing in modern parlance is a tape delay and even all those are simulated now. There has to be a way to suspend a signal discreetly within a circuit. Wait... Lig...

Re: Analog sampler?

You couldn't record onto hard disk, as I stated, because that instantly makes the sample digital. To be purely analog, the signal must remain analog along the entire signal path. Any recourse into digital storage would degrade the analog nature of the signal. See my addenda to the original post.

Analog sampler?

Has anyone ever made a true analog sampler? I was reading the recent posts under the Korg DSS-1 in which one user declared it to be analog and several others rightly explained it is hybrid at best. The DSS-1 stores samples (and modeled harmonics and hand-drawn wave forms) as PCM samples, which are d...

Does anyone know if the Red Sound Dark Star XP2 Keyboard was ever produced, even as a mock-up? I just read about it in an old issue of Keyboard (April 2002) covering NAMM that year, when the XP2 debuted. I have an XP2 but I'm curious as to how the keyboard would have appeared. Red Sound Systems appe...

Re: Calling all Korgheads and Tritoneers! Question!!

Thanks for all the replies. Some very useful information here. I think I'm going to go for a Roland A80. It has 88 keys with polyphonic aftertouch, two MIDI in, one MIDI through, and four MIDI out. It's a bit newer than the Ensoniqs and probably a bit less prone to malfunction. It's a lot closer to ...

Calling all Korgheads and Tritoneers! Question!!

I have read through the Triton manual, and scoured the web, but still I am not dead certain whether or not the Triton has polyphonic aftertouch. I want a keyboard with poly aftertouch for my studio. The only contenders seem to be the new VAX77 MIDI keyboard (at $3,000? Pppvvvvfff! Yeah, right...), t...
