Re: Korg DS-8, FM or PM?
But what was indicated in the VZ article is that the Yamaha synths DON'T use FM, but Phase Modulation. And you seem to be saying that the DS-8 is closer to the Phase Distortion of the CZ synths? So, does the DS-8 actually use Phase Distortion, then, or is it true FM as in the VZ-1? The whole confusi...

Korg DS-8, FM or PM?
The Casio VZ-1 review emphasizes that the CZ line uses Phase Distortion while the VZ uses Phase Distortion and Frequency Modulation, and that the Yamaha synths actually use Phase Modulation, not FM. If the Korg DS-8 uses the Yamaha type of synthesis, is it, too, a Phase Modulation synthesizer, or is...

Re: Anyone recognize this?
Yes, it definitely looks like the Gakken, correct logo and everything. I think that gag photo is heavily shopped, including the rabbit's eye and most likely the little keyboard. Thanks, all.

Anyone recognize this?

No, not the rabbit. The keyboard appears to say "Access" but could be something else. I doubt it is one of the Waldorf MIDI controllers made by Access. If you have a clue, give a shout. Thanks.

Seriously? @*#& this. I quit. I'm outta here. I got nothin'. And people still have the temerity to criticize Arturia for doing such good business? What alternative do we have? This? 141161792419 And I don't fault Armens. They sell top notch equipment well cared for and nurtured. But this isn't even ...

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.
The $2250 FiZmo is still there. Recently there was a Hartmann Neuron that went for $2800 in original box with all original accessories. And a Yamaha VL-1 that went for $1499. Sorry, didn't save the links. I was too chicken$* to bid on them (have to be stingy at the moment) but I will ache for not ...

Fogeys Unite
I like the feel of synthesizers. The warmth of plastic, the cold sucking reality of steel, the kinship of wood, the inviting friendship of knobs, sliders, switches, and keys, the beacons of lights and diodes. Software has none of that. It just has functionality. Functionality does not have heart.

Robots for MIDI?
A handful of my keyboards are too old for MIDI and therefor cannot be automated. Rather than have to play them live during a recording (limiting) or modifying them heavily (if at all possible and due to rarity hardly desired), I am thinking of making robots to play them. There are a number of roboti...

Re: Roland JD-800/D-50 card compatible?
That I knew, thanks. PCM/CIA cards are physically the same the same way that floppy diskettes are physically the same (if of the same capacity) even if formatted in different machines like Macintosh versus Windows.

Re: Roland JD-800/D-50 card compatible?
That's what I figured, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. With patch names like "Biting the Mailman," "Binary Dreamgirl," and "Sugarplum Bum" I'm thinking this is too interesting to pass up. I might get it and then invest in a D-50 later.

Roland JD-800/D-50 card compatible?
Can a Roland JD-800 read a D-50 PCM/CIA ROM card? There is a very interesting D-50 ROM card with some very peculiarly named patches on eBay right now. I have a JD-800 but not a D-50. Thanks.

E-Mu E4X Turbo stuck mounting SCSI 7
My E-Mu E4X Turbo is stuck at "Mounting SCSI Drive 7." I was able to update the firmware from 4.01 to 4.62, but the boot still halts at mounting drive 7 which is fixed as a Macintosh. There are no devices connected to the external SCSI. Should there be a terminator on the back of the E4X? Since it i...

Re: ISO Minisoftmusik Extractor
Thanks, very much. I'd forgotten about the Wayback machine. The people who run it don't get paid enough. I've been trying to dig into the exe with various compressors and decompressors. It doesn't run at all. Windows says it isn't a valid win32 application and dosbox says it won't run in dos mode. E...
