Re: Poll: Favorite drum machine

Joy electric uses a tr-505 quite a bit. That's what he used on the fox glove hunt ep. Yeah, it's not the greatest drum machine but it can still sound good in proper context. Example:

Re: Moog discontinues Slim Phatty

This is really disappointing. I was hoping to buy one new someday. I know there's always the used market, but I prefer to buy new whenever I can. It's a bit surprising that they would do this because I see a lot of musicians using the slim phattys live and I know they're pretty popular. But perhaps ...

Re: SQ80 screen and buttons freezing

And an update. I've had the synth on all day and played with it quite a bit. It still hasn't frozen. It's never gone this long without freezing so I think it's fixed. Thanks again rhino for the help!

Re: SQ80 screen and buttons freezing

Well, this has taken me way too long to get to, but I'm finally working through the steps you suggested, rhino. As soon as I opened it up, it was clear that it hadn't been opened in some time. Lots of dust and hair inside. I gave everything a thorough cleaning and started out by cleaning the ends of...

Re: Social club for synthesizer enthusiasts in Tacoma, Wa ar

That sounds cool.

I live about 45 minutes from Tacoma so that's something I'd be interested in checking out sometime. If you can generate enough interest nearby that is.

Re: Arturia miniBrute microBrute and miniLab price drops

Nice! I love my microbrute and was already thinking of getting another one at some point. It would especially be fun to patch them together via the mini modular ports.

Re: Rei Harakami, best user of the SC-88 pro

I can't get over his unique composition style and how he was able to do so much with just one cheap little unit. I think he used up to 3 of them for the sake of easier multitracking, but still! He used a lot of interesting jazz-like chords in a lot of his stuff, and he also composed in a lot of diff...

Re: Rei Harakami, best user of the SC-88 pro

I wish I knew myself. I do know that he used one or two roland vs series multitrack workstations. I'm pretty sure he used the vs-2000. Here is an interview where he talks gear, unfortunately it's all in japanese though. http://www.mc-club.ne.jp/interview/rei_harakami/

Re: Alpha Juno 2: check battery!

I have an alpha juno with a battery holder that doesn't even work anymore. Took it in to have it repaired and they couldn't figure out the problem without spending more money on it (not worth it). All you do is press the preset button and the check battery message goes away. Since I can't save patch...

Re: which synth should be set on fire?

My problem is that I like crappy gear and lower tier synths and keyboards. But I vote monotron for being mostly unusable in a musical context.

Re: Game - Synth Death(light-a-)match - Nominations

Here is a better demo of the SC-88 Pro. Rei Harakami used multiple SC-88 Pros and a Roland multitrack recorder with some built-in effects, nothing else.

Great contest and a great concept! I'm so glad to see that these are still going on. Even with only 4 submissions, this is one of my favorites so far.

Re: Synth Spa- Haven't seen my 106 in almost a year...

My brother also sent in his 106 for some work. Took forever, and I still don't know if he has it. He also didn't respond to any e-mails. I don't know if he tried calling or not. I agree that I think he just bit off more than he could chew, sounds like he should hire a couple of hands to help him out!

Re: VSE Disco Competition - ends June 1st/14

Man, I really wanted to submit something, but I've had one of the busiest months on record. I've only had a couple days off all month, super exhausted. Oh well, looking forward to hearing what everyone did.
