Re: Analogue effects units

The guitar pedal route is not bad, but guitar pedals are designed for a different signal level and impedance, so you'll need DIs or something around it. I wish people would stop repeating that guitar pedal impedance mismatch myth on the internet. It's simply untrue for 99% of the guitar pedals out ...

Re: Circuit simulator. Virtual analog indeed.

Wow. This is by far the most intuitive, easy to use spice tool I've ever used. It's still a bit too basic for serious analysis, but I wish every spice tool had a GUI this nice. I hope they keep developing it until its a really mature piece of software. I don't understand why every circuit simulator ...

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth

Hey just think. If this sells well imagine what the Big 2 (f**k roland) might do. Korg gets their rear in gear when they realise their progress into analogue synths has effectively been slingshotted past by newcomers. Maybe they'll release a competing product. I figured they would have already gott...

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth

Damn. Who would have thought that Arturia would be the company to finally make the affordable, knoby analog monosynth that so many people have been trying to get 'the big 3' to make? I figured Korg would be first since they were heading in that direction already with their monotribe stuff, but Artur...

Re: U-He DIVA

I don't disagree with any of that. I thought we were talking DIVA vs. other softsysnths that try to emulate analog, not hardware vs. software.

Re: U-He DIVA

So neither one of us is lying, it's just a difference in subjective preferences for sounds. Um, read your comments again. It's one thing to say you just don't like the sound of something and another to claim that it's "bogus" and "placebo." That's not just a subjective preference. I don't really ca...

Re: Arturia Oberheim SEM V

Not bad. It doesn't sound quite as good as Arturia's SEM but it doesn't cost $250 either. Really? I think OPX-pro sounds considerably more authentic to the Oberheim sound than the Arturia SEM. Nothing Arturia makes sounds very authentic to me. I like their synths alright, but authentic they are not.

Re: U-He DIVA

Yep, it's bogus. Just tried it again. I'm not saying people can't get good sounds out of it. I know that some very very talented sound designers can make nearly any VSTi sound good. I think there may be a bit of placebo effect going on here with this lust for "Diva". Or maybe some sound designers p...

Re: Scored a Juno-60

I never said DON'T replace caps. I said REPLACE THE ONES THAT ARE BROKEN. That's implied in the old adage. It's not a matter of "belief"- this is electronics, not religion. By the way "broken" means "out of spec". There is no way to test a cap to ensure it meets specification without first removing...

Re: Scored a Juno-60

The old adage-if it's not broken, don't fix it- applies to caps too. It's so easy to diagnose a bad cap! And what do you mean "out of spec"? Tolerance on a cap is often around +/- 30%! And there are caps from the seventies onwards that are specified to last 35 years. Read a data sheet, it's educati...

Re: Scored a Juno-60

Actually the IR3R01 EG chips are the most expensive chips in there. I have a working Juno-60 CPU if you need one. Wow, that's nuts. I'm glad mine doesn't have any voice problems. Thanks for the offer on the cpu, but at this point I figure if the cpu is bad I'll just install a minerva kit. The only ...

Re: New Fooger MF-108M Cluster Flux

Probably not with the limited number of the BBD chips. I called Nova Musik yesterday to check on my pre-order. They just received 25 units and I'm around #50 of about 140 pre-orders they THEY have. If the trend with these is similar to the Taurus 3, you could see these popping up used for around 60...

Re: 3 synths connected to one Midi i/o??

Have you tried the obvious solution of just chaining them together and set them to different channels internally? That's kind of how midi was designed to work. Things can get a bit wonky if you try to chain more than 3 or 4 instruments, and I would put more rhythmic instruments first in the chain, b...
