Re: great SH-101-driven tracks

Really sorry for the OT but I was actually going to make a whole thread asking what gear Tobacco uses, he's got an awesome lo-fi/gritty sound. Anyway i dug up an interview with some relevant bits: Please do! Huge Tobacco/BMSR fan here. I've gathered a pretty good idea of his kit over the years form...

Re: great SH-101-driven tracks

Great thread, but I just wanted to point out that Tobacco's Yum Yum Cult from the original post is definitely not an sh101. It doesn't really sound like one, and as far a I know Tobacco has never used an sh101 on any of his music. Most of the BMSR melodies are a Yamaha CS series. On his own stuff he...

Re: Need Drum Machine

I'd say go with one of the boss DR series (550, 660, 770). You can grab them for under 100 bucks and they do exactly what you describe. Check out some youtube videos. The Yamaha drum machines or Alesis SR-16 would probably work just as well, but I haven't tried those so can't comment on them. You re...

Re: How to NOT be overcompressed

Since series compression has been mentioned in this thread a few times, I just thought it was worth adding that series compression has the effect of multiplying compression ratios rather than adding them. If you have a transient that gets attenuated by one compressor at 5:1 and then goes through ano...

Re: Got Shruthi?

I've contacted Oliver by email in the past and got a reply. However, if you have any questions it might be better to post them in the forum. He is very active there, and there are other people that can answer your questions there too. As far as the next batch of kits, I don't remember there being an...

Re: Songs With Great, Interesting Use of Arpeggiators

Most likely faked sequencing, but still my favorite arp sound. (I believe it's an SH-101)

Re: "Must have" drum machine samples?

No, he believed he was correct and was merely clarifying his position. No, it was already established that Audacity was saying the files were 32bit. Nobody was arguing with that. I tried to politely move on but he insisted on posting a screenshot and repeating the same point he made earlier for abs...

Re: "Must have" drum machine samples?

This correct. No idea why the word fight was used though. Because even after I insisted that there must be something wrong with them checking the bit depth in audacity, and that they should check with another program, and I also apologized for steering the tread off topic and said I didn't want to ...

Re: "Must have" drum machine samples?

of course its possible Audacity has an issue with displaying the correct bit depth, but I think it's more likely you're thinking of a different sample pack. Come on man, I apologized for taking the thread off topic and tried to drop the issue, but you keep wanting to push it? This is getting very t...

Re: "Must have" drum machine samples?

As far as you could tell... was there more bad samples than good? Like I said, most of them are fine. There are definitely far more good samples than bad. I think there are a few versions of the 200 drum machines pack floating around.. In my experience the samples labelled MAX(something) were s**t,...

Re: "Must have" drum machine samples?

Are you sure you are thinking of the right library? I have that one, and all of the sounds appear to be standard 16bit 44.1kHz files Just to stir the pot, I've checked quite a few of them in the past 10 minutes... none of them clip, and Audacity labels them as 32bit, 44.1khz. Audacity is wrong, the...

Re: "Must have" drum machine samples?

While we're at it, here's 200 drum machine sample packs in a single 300 MB file: http://www.hexawe.net/mess/200.Drum.Machines/ They're all 32-bit 48 kHz samples, so that might be a problem for some. I guess I should have posted this in the "links to free samples" thread. Are you sure you are thinki...

Re: "Must have" drum machine samples?

What Yamaha box would you recommend? There's about a dozen of them, and I wouldn't even know where to start.

Also, is the DR550 that much different than the DR660? I already own a DR660, so I don't want to get redundant.

"Must have" drum machine samples?

I'm looking to load up an old Akai sampler with drum machine samples. There are so many different drum machines out there and I'm trying to narrow it down to the bare essentials. What are the classic drum machines that everyone should have in their sample library? So far I have narrowed it down to t...
