Re: do you think MIDI interfaces are going obsolete?

If you want to educate yourself regarding the complexity of the situation, head over to the Access site and read all about the ludicrous steps one must follow in order to avoid this issue with the Virus T1 (which transfers its data at the slower USB1 speed). That falls under 'configuring your compu...

Re: do you think MIDI interfaces are going obsolete?

To suggest that package drop over a usb connection is the cause for midi timing issues is a lack of knowledge of the respective protocols. Midi messages are a few bits whereas the standard usb connection is 400+ mb/s. if the protocol couldn't handle decoding, transferring, and re-encoding a few bits...

Re: do you think MIDI interfaces are going obsolete?

They're already totally reliable, any unreliability you may have heard of was most probably people who don't know how to configure their computer for making music. I would expect the moderator of this forum to be a little less condescending. Claiming that users who experience syncing/timing issues ...

Re: do you think MIDI interfaces are going obsolete?

There is another issue that I don't believe members have fully addressed: Timing I know what you are thinking, "Yeah, MIDI timing sucks and the latency is awful in a multi-port interface." But in reality, MIDI over USB is even worse - especially when trying to sync the LFOs or arpeggiators from your...

Re: do you think MIDI interfaces are going obsolete?

I, of all people, would love to replace all my MIDI interfaces with something simpler and more flexible. But alas, there doesn't seem to be a suitable replacement. Here's my insane MIDI setup: * emagic AMT 8 connected to a Mac running Logic 9 * MOTU Midi Express 128 connected to a PC running SoundDi...

Re: Its been a while, but I'm back and need gear advice

I agree that Logic's own synths and instruments are WAY better than the IK stuff. Having said that, the virtual analog synths in Logic (notably the ES2) can be a little thin-sounding. But the UI's are really clever and cram a lot of very useful and powerful functionality into a compact, easy-to-use ...

Re: Matrix 6/1000 - Soft Mod Glitches - how bad is it really

I am a Matrix-1000 owner. I have never noticed that the modulation routings become "flakey" or somehow unresponsive the more routings that are applied. As I'm sure you know, the Matrix-1000 includes a number of "hard-wired" mod-routings along with a more general purpose 10-slot mod matrix. It's quit...

Re: Replacing the knobs on my Prophet '08 rack

You can find all manner of knobs and twisty objects from mouser electronics... Mouser Electronics -- Electromechanical (Knobs and Dials) I don't know what else you would use, but I suppose you could get creative to an extent...I've always just worked with whatever knobbies came with my kit... -N Co...

Re: Replacing the knobs on my Prophet '08 rack

Ah, I see that there is an existing thread for this topic: Prophet Style Knobs on Mono Evolver. Worth it? So the Prophet '08-style knobs are $69 from Dave Smith Instruments and can be "popped on" without opening the unit or doing any "major surgery." But I'm still wondering if I could order even bet...

Replacing the knobs on my Prophet '08 rack

I'm thinking of replacing the knobs on my Prophet '08 rack with something that feels better and which has a white "position line" on each of the knobs. (Please note that I already have the more recent potentiometer version of the Prophet '08 rack. I am NOT wanting to replace the encoders with standa...

Re: NI Massive - anyone?

Been fooling with the demo - pretty sweet. Anyone use it a lot here? Looks very deep and I like the sound so far. Massive has one of the best synth programming interfaces I have used. The way modulators are assigned and presented (as colored "ranges" around the knobs) is brilliant. However, like al...

The second track has a cool Depeche Mode vibe to it in places. (That's a compliment!)
