Re: Dave Smith Modular

Way to talk up your PA397 chip there, DSI! - which happens to be the least desirable part of the DSI synths, and certainly not a part of the Prophet-5 or Pro-One sound....and yet that's the first thing mentioned. And then on to further historical errors of name-dropping. Ahhh, marketing fluff. Yea,...

Re: What was the first song you learned on your first synth?

The first synth I bought myself was a brand new (at the time, obviously) Sequential Circuits Prophet 600. I also got a Roland TR-909 as a gift from my Dad around the same time which I was slightly disappointed with because I really wanted the Linn Drum my neighbor had, and at the time, the TR-909 w...

Re: Custom Modualr Help

So you haven't played it in 20 years ? :? http://beausievers.com/synth/synthbasics/ Essentially modular work the same way, but you need to connect the signals, with cables. (looks like that one uses 3.5 mono cables). I really can't explain every function of that machine (i'd be typing for 40 mins), ...

Re: Roland Aira System 1--SonicState review vid

For a 1 voice virtual hybrid controller I was getting a lot of noise. Very touchy pans. Aside from "a lot of noise" You mean like a lot of ugly noise that ain't meant to be there? Are you sure its not just a feedback loop? Perhaps there is something wrong with your unit? That doesn't sound too good...

Re: Alpha Juno & DSI Prophet 08

I found a couple of things about the Prophet that I'm not too happy with. I know the pots fixed a few problems, but as it stands looking at them doesn't tell me what's going on on a particular patch. When I change patches the actual settings change but the position of the knobs don't. To be able to...

Re: Roland Aira System 1--SonicState review vid

I agree that it is a nice sounding digital filter and the ability to put a plug out into the synth is Very good idea, means you can get a lot of different soft synths (hopefully at a cheapish price) and not be glued to your pc. Hopefully this will be a success and Roland will continue to work with t...

Re: Akai Miniak vs. Korg R3

I've got an R3. It's pretty difficult to do any serious editing from the front panel, but there is a free korg pc editor. While I don't have a minak, from what I've read its front panel editing is much, much worse then the R3, it doesn't have an official editor or a usb port. That is what both the u...

Re: Am I ruining my synths by letting them get too hot?

So this is in the "attic" of the garage, the roof space? Well it can get pretty damn hot in roofs, especially if their in the sun. I have not idea about heat and electronics, but I can imagine humidity would cause corrosion and plastic could warp if it got hot enough... It is the attic, yes, but I'...

Definately liking the features. Kind of a mix between a pro-one and a korg mono/poly with lots of extra oscillator waveforms.

Does it mean no soldering is required to put this together?
means Surface mount technology. Still have to solder a plenty without it... through hole is just easier for DIY
