Re: Moog Slim/little Phatty vs Voyager RME

I think you'd do fine with a Phatty. Yes, it has one less oscillator, and filter, and more limited modulation patching, BUT, it is still a 100% real deal analog Moog synth, and the very last design by the late great Bob Moog himself. The Phatty can do some amazing bass and lead sounds, and though it...

Re: About to drop about a grand on a synth....

The Little Phatty is an amazing little synth, and never boring. It's main drawback is the limited amount of simultaneous tweaking that can be done with only 4 knobs, but in reality, the layout and controls are just right for this machine. Go for it.

Re: NOOB looking for analog synth

I would agree, if he wants piano and so forth, a worksation would be ideal, and I've owned a Korg X-50, which is loaded with tons of great patches, including some analog sounding synth patches. BUT, virtually no hands on "synth control". The DSI MoPho keyboard is actually an anoalog synthesizer, but...

Re: Tomita - choral sounds on "The Bermuda Triangle"?

Somewhat off-topic, but I remember the first time I met my friend Greg's dad, Don Ivan Punchatz, who did the coverart for the Bermuda Triangle album- I saw the original art framed on a wall and thought, how odd. Took a few minuets to discover this was actually the origianl artwork, which floored me....

Re: Analog-modeling versus ... "Normal" synth?

It might be worth your time to learn the ins and outs of syntesis in general, like starting with the oscillators, filters, amp, LFO, etc, and learn what exactly each section does, so it will be easier to understand "how" you make the sound. (re: the SH 201) Synthesizers are a huge blast, but a basic...

Re: Introduction to Synths

Started as a prog-rock fan in the 70's, Yes, ELP, etc. But became a bass player, seriously. A few years ago, bought a Moog LP, and that was the start of what's become a full-time synth-player gig with a proggy band now. Bought another Little Phatty, a DSI MoPho kb, and a couple of Korg/Roland synths...

Another nod to the MoPho keyboard. Not only is it a blast to play, and fully featured, but as mentioned above, that keyboard feels awesome. Very solid construction, as well.

Doesn't that unit allow for creating and storing your own sounds? I'd actually be surprised if it doesn't.

Re: Novation Ultranova VS M-Audio Venom

I was playing with a Venom just yesterday. Very impressed with the quality overall, and some great sounds to boot. Between those 2, the venom would be my choice as well.

Re: analog poly synth

OK, still learning, so, I suppose analog is not crucial if the OB-12 is digital, it's a great sounding machine that has "analog-like" control. I'm good with that. My MoPho is a keeper, and I'd like to keep the Phatty, (it's my 2nd one), but I could let that go for the right poly synth. Thought about...

analog poly synth

I'm new, and I searched first. This is a great board here. So,...I'm a bassist who landed a gig as a synth player. I've got a MoPho keyboard, and Little Phatty Stage II, as well as a Korg X-50. Very happy with the 2 mono's, but instead of the X-50, I'm looking at either an Oberheim OB-12, or Waldorf...

Re: Mono analog synth?

The MoPho is an excellent choice, more features and sounds than a Moog Little Phatty, for half the price. Loves me some MoPho.
