Re: Roland Boutique

I've had the JP-08 for almost two weeks, and wanted to back computron's post on the *sound* quality of these modules. I'm still blown away by the sound of the Jupiter- like he said, better than any VA I've ever heard, including the Virus KB I owned. I did get the keyboard for mine, and while the tin...

That re-done MEK back on page 5, and again at the top of page 9, is fantastic. I so badly want to re-do my MEK. Love the synth, hate the blue. More info on how that was done would be splendid.

Re: It's time for another Analog Bass Synth

Alot of cool semi-modular analog these days, with mini jacks. Seems like everybody/s making something, and all of it can work together. I like it, but can't possibly own all of them. It is a good time to be into analog though.

Re: Roland Boutique

Just brought my new JP-08 home last night. Yes, sliders have very short throws, etc, but really, these things sound amazing. I also bought a Yamaha CS Reface a while back, and while those are greatness in their own right, I have to say, this little Jupiter clone is knocking me out with it's incredib...

Yup, I'd take a look at the DSI Mopho KB, as a real contender. It's not perfect, but it is analog, and has more features than most at this price point.

+1 Blofeld's mod-matrix is a snap to program, very intuitive.

Re: Bass Pedals Setup

Geddy used Moog Taurus pedals, so the Minitaur is the best choice, short of an actual set of Taurus pedals.

Re: Roland Boutique

I just got in line for the JP-08 with the tiny keyboard. Should be in my mitts in a week or two, joining the Reface CS in my growing "mini-synth" arsenal. All the tiny slider talk aside, these little guys sound great, and cost much less than a real Jupiter, or CS 80, etc. Plus, when the world ends, ...

Re: Looking to Buy First Synthesizer

I don't much care for the feel of the MS 20's little mini keys, so of the two, I'd go with the Brute- but there are other options in that general price range. A used DSI Mopho kb for instance.

Re: What to buy - unimpressed by bass station 2

Agreed, Little Phatty is actually quite intuitive, and easy to dial up a great patch. One "knob" per section, but easy to switch from one function to another on the fly. As an added bonus, they sound amazing.

Re: one line synth reviews

Interesting read, I'll share a few I've owned or own. Alesis Fusion 6- sounds were wonderful, but UI froze up frequently. Gone Roland SH 201- sounds were ok, but overall boring. Gone Korg X 50- sounds were amazing, but editing near impossible, and overall feel cheap. Gone Access Virus KB- absolutely...

Re: Yamaha Reface

Just for laughs, I've played with 3 of the 4, CS, DX, and the red organ one. (red organ?, hmm). Anyway, not a fan of mini keys, but these feel better than ANY I've played previously. Sturdy, solid. Points for that. Playing them through the internal spkrs, they sound ok, but not great. Plugging them ...

Re: Minibrute+Blofeld for ambient sounds. Would that work?

Either a Blofeld or a Virus would work well. Generally, an older Virus, B or C, are more affordable, but either one will provide all the sounds you seek, and then some.

Re: Jaga Jazzist new album - studio performance video

I enjoyed it, even if it does tend to bog down a bit at times. Just refreshing to see such a big band, mixing it up with actual horns/traditional guitar and bass/and all those synthesizers. Watched another video that included a small string orchestra as well.

I'm also in Dallas, also a bassist first, and I think Z's Juno is a great idea.
