Re: Balanced outputs - how to find out?

Great news - just adding the HD400 between the mixer and audio interface got rid of the interference. The SNR is now significantly higher. Just recording silence from the mixer gives me about -100dB. Of course as soon as I enable some of its channels they add more noise, but it's a lot more manageab...

Re: Balanced outputs - how to find out?

Hmm... maybe the synths are the least of the problems. I captured some noise before and after turning the mixer on: mixer off/on comparison This is obviously heavily amplified but you can hear the main noise that annoys me, it's 1 kHz + overtones, and it's already there when the mixer is turned off....

Re: Balanced outputs - how to find out?

Hi madtheory, thank you for your detailed and helpful (as so often :)) reply. That's the most common, as it saves money and most users don't need bal. Which is kinda sad given that most of these devices were expensive high-quality studio equipment used by professionals. Don't the manuals show the TS...

Balanced outputs - how to find out?

Recently I have been rearranging some of my gear and was thinking about balanced audio - all my synths are connected through the typical dual mono output jacks, and I tried reading up the technical specifications in their respective manuals to figure out if those outputs are balanced or unbalanced, ...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

We are out of stock! It took a bit longer this time due to the registration form mishap, but the last cards are now finally sold. However, there might be another batch coming (definitely not before the second half of 2020, maybe even later), so you can sign up at https://sagamusix.de/other/roland_m...

Re: My Roland D-50 won't receive midi data.

Did you double-check your connections? I find it unlikely that only the MIDI In of your D-50 is broken, so check if the cable that you confirmed to be working with MIDI-Out works for MIDI-In (unless it's one of those USB cables that have one fixed input and one fixed output connector, obviously). Al...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

There is no secret at all. :) What we do is an absolutely common way of bank switching, so I'm surprised that you didn't find anything: Obviously the 512KB chip has a couple of more address lines than the original 32KB chip, so when the synth wants to read from or write to a specific address, the sw...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

noizeBot is referring to the cards being advertised in this very thread. We are not Musitronics - but we are currently struck but an unfortunate event of sickness, so replying to orders currently takes a bit longer than usual. Stay tuned, you will get your reply soon!

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

As mentioned before in this topic - it's simply not possible to offer a single product that would work with all Roland synths that can use ROM cards, just like that card doesn't work with any Korg synth. You need to reverse-engineer the card format for every single Roland synth. Once you have done t...

Interesting. They are still in business, so maybe anyone who's interested in the device could just send them a mail and ask nicely? :)

Re: Value before/after restoration? De-yellow plastic?

Quick comment on the de-yellowing: Recent discoveries in the retro computing scene suggest that it can be done entirely by exposing a machine to bright sunlight (so depending on where you live, right now might not be a good point in time to do that). Here's a video on the topic: https://www.youtube....

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Yes, cards are still available for purchase via https://sagamusix.de/other/roland_memory_cards/

http://www.rolandmuseum.de/synth/html/J ... V1000.html suggests that a M-256 card should be fine, but you can double-check the owner's manual. It should list all compatible accessories.

Re: Yamaha RX-5 ROM format parser/extractor

Some stuff remains unknown since I did not know the exact parameters used on the device back then And now you can decrypt all the parameters used in the samples headers? As I said just one sentence before that: Sadly this project was never finished, I still don't have an RX-5 Nothing changed about ...
