Raw D-50 waveforms

Many people in the past have searched for the raw, original D-50 waveforms, but most of the time you only find recordings, if anything at all. But now it's 2017, and naturally the official Roland D-50 VST plugin has them! They are 16-bit PCM samples, and the middle-C frequency seems to be around 333...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

Great to hear you got your card! My only tiny complaint is that I find myself removing the card every time I want to switch the banks -- I can switch it with the card inside, but I don't want to write over the wrong bank by accident My personal advice to do before every Int->Card transfer is to firs...

Re: My Roland D50 Keys

Sometimes things don't quite work out perfectly after the first cleaning session, possibly because new dirt / hair / ... has found its way into the key contacts. I'd try to clean the offending keys again. One time when I cleaned the keys, other keys started to misbehave for this exact reason!

Re: Connect a Microkorg to a PC?

Any USB MIDI interface will probably do. The cheapest ones often have problems with large SysEx dumps, but single patches of the MicroKorg seem to be small enough to not cause problems even with those interfaces. If you want to be absolutely sure, you can get e.g. an ESI MidiMate, which is not that ...

Re: Kurzweil K2500 operating system bugs?

Update to the click issue: The noise bursts seem to be caused by the LP2RES filter, and in particular by increasing the filter cutoff by large amounts (decreasing is fine) as done by FUN4 in patch 891. According to Jean from Kurzweil support, the clicks are not a known issue.

Re: Kurzweil K2500 operating system bugs?

Still haven't gotten around replacing that darn PLCC, but 64MB of SIMMs just arrived (found an amazing deal on Amazon - half the price of those crazy ebay sellers) and the custom PRAM expansion is working as well! https://sagagames.de/ithumb/thumbs/imgp6094.jpg Memory-wise, I'm all settled now. :)

Yeah, maybe for the next revision, printing a triangle on the card might be a good idea. :) There will STILL be people who put it in the wrong way, but at least we can blame them then.

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

It's great so see so many happy people after all this time. I really didn't expect this more than three years ago. :)
Thank you all for this great journey, and an extra thank you to dojoe for taking this journey with me. :D

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

I just checked and the vintagebox site has actually been updated in the meantime with correct physical dimensions. Maybe the author is reading along here, or had to build another card and noticed that the old measurements were incorrect. ;)

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

You might not even need to go the complicated route via USB. Maybe one of those small popular dev boards with plenty of GPIO pins and an SD card slot could be used to program the card by connecting the GPIO pins to the D70 card reader and directly talking to the MRAM chips that way. You could simply...

Re: Opinion: Best or favorite Midiverb?

I have to say that I'm completely disappointed by my first-gen Nanoverb 2. Takes a second to initialize program changes, is rather noisy, it overdrives easily and - this really surprised me! - the waveform wraps around once it overdrives too much! How is that even possible? They use a 52-bit DSP, wh...

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.

This also reminds me (no link, sorry, too long ago!) of the time when I got my D-50 in 2011. I was monitoring prices for a while after that to check if I would have found a better offer if I just waited a bit longer.... Back then I got it for 220€, which was a typical price, but certianly there were...

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.

When looking into getting a K2500 or any of its variants, I checked the offers on ebay... sure enough, some shops think that they can charge you anything if the thing works, no matter how butchered it is. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kurzweil-K2500XS-88-Key-Digital-Sampling-Keyboard-Synthesizer-Workstat...

Re: Custom-built multi-bank Roland M-256/M-512 memory cards

dojoe will publish the sources for the card soon so you can build your own improvements; but you can rest assured that we will not make any more modifications to the card apart from possible bugfixes for currently unsupported devices. Adding any kind of USB interface or such is completely out of the...
