It might be good to undergo your synth beginnings in an unconventional way and tackle the Micron first thing. Yeah, U-he ACE is great. I'm not a fan of using it for vanilla-style filter work... i.e. if you try and program a resonant sweep patch with it I'd say it comes up short, but it's great if you're doing a lot of audio-rate modulations. I've programmed a lot of complex feedback FM-style things with it ...
