Re: 53 Minute comparison - Minimoog and Behringer Model D

The fat bottom Moogs are known for has always puzzled me as an electrical engineer. How do you design oscillators so that the lower harmonics are stronger than they actually should be in a "perfect" waveform? It's annoyed the heck out of me too - I think it's just the interaction of several VCOs th...

53 Minute comparison - Minimoog and Behringer Model D

This is the kind of comparison I've been waiting for - The Behringer sounds great considering it's being compared to a 45 year old Minimoog. Remember there's no component degeneration and it's calibrated correctly. Jareth even states that it SHOULD be compared to the latest (and now discontinued) re...

DIY Minimoog Clone

Well... It's taken forever, but I've finally started doing a few demos of my Minimoog Clone. I've replaced the Roland System M Oscillators (much easier to build) for The original 3046 Mini VCOs - I can't tell any difference whatsoever, so the mods I made to the Rolands must have been pretty much ban...

Re: Classic Minimoog - That "Fat" Saturated Sound Explored..

I always back off the VCO levels into the mixer, I've never been keen on the Minimoog's saturation, especially with 3 VCOs on the go. I prefer a slightly purer sound - But that's just me for you ;)

Re: MiniMoog bargain clone wars heat up

If the B*hringer has background hiss and bleed over that some of their other products have had in my personal experience, then I'll give it miss. The Minimoog thrives on VCO crosstalk, VCA bleed and hiss. The signal path is full of design faults that could have been corrected during it's history, b...

Re: DSI Announces New REV2 16-Voice Analog Poly Synth!

I'm suffering from Analogue fatigue at the moment - Too much of the same old. I'm after something that's going to slap me in the face and scream "WAKE UP"... Even if it's digital - GASP!

I can't believe I missed this on my last holiday to SF - Two minutes off the 580 :o

Note to self... Next time, no more Cruising the Castro - there's far more important things to see

Re: Roland's Jupiter-8, Juno-106 and System-8 plugins availa

Apple meanwhile has gone in completely the opposite direction...Logic is now only $200, making it cheaper than any of it's DAW competition but there are no more upgrade deals, you simply pay $200 again for each new version. Plus you have to pay a handsome price for the hardware for Logic to run on ...

Re: Roland's Jupiter-8, Juno-106 and System-8 plugins availa

I don't have a problem with Roland Cloud - Think about it this way: In my case for example, the price of the System-100 Plug-Out/VST/AU is £148... One years subscription is £186, but you get to keep the System 100 software after a year, so the difference in reality is £38 (73p per week) for a years ...

Re: Which synths were used on David Bowie's 'Berlin Trilogy'

When Heroes came out, there was a pic from the studio Hansa by the Wall - I think it was either in Sounds or NME - There was definitely a 2600 in it. I remember it well because the week before, I had gone up to London to buy an Odyssey from Chase (London Synthesizer Centre), I ended up buying a seco...

Re: Waldorf Quantum - new 8 voice hybrid poly

A brand new Oberheim OB-8 cost $7000..I wonder what that is in "now" money. According to this inflation calculator - $7000 in 1983, now equates to $17,120.69 :o  I love the design of the Quantum, it's pretty stunning, but I'm not sure about the sound - I feel as if I've heard it all before.

Ahhh... Thank you. That explains so much. I bought a bunch of them as backups in case it happened again - They're quite a useful chip to have around. More VCA's for the modular then ;)
