Re: What was the most expensive Synth you ever bought?

Most expensive I've bought was a tie between a Jupiter 6 and an Arp Odyssey, each bought for $1250 a year back. I flipped them both and made a nice profit off them, especially the Jup6 which sold for $1950, making it my biggest single sale profit ever.

Re: The Official Oberheim OB-12 Thread

^ Cool. Thanks for the info about the Viscount repair people. I contacted them and am waiting for a response. Can you talk about it's strengths and weaknesses in your opinion? So far I haven't heard much weakness but I haven't had the synth for very long. I suppose for cutting, aggressive leads it's...

Re: The Official Oberheim OB-12 Thread

There are a few bugs in the system, but nothing deal breaking that I've come across. A few times I've gotten a "ripping" sound from the LFO, and have no clue what caused it, but it went away with a little tweaking. I have the 1.52 updated OS and haven't had any other problems yet. One can say Viscou...

Re: What synth have you been using a lot lately?

I was using an Arp Odyssey for awhile. It had issues staying in tune though and was generally a pain to use. Before that I had an Arp Axxe that I loved, but sold anyway. Now I'm using an Oberheim OB-12 as my primary synth. You can hear sound examples on my youtube.

What's the deal with the Roland JD-800?

Any users of this synth out there that want to throw in their opinions on this synth? I've always been attracted to it due to the ton of sliders on it's front panel. It looks relatively fun to program. I've read as much as I can find online about them, but it would be great to hear some pros/cons/co...

Re: compressors = confusion?

I'll throw my perverse outlook into the mix. Compressors are great for making a track sound "different". If you really push a compressor you can get all kinds of "artifacts" such as "pumping", which means certain levels of certain sounds will go up and down, in and out of the mix in a way that gives...

The Official Oberheim OB-12 Thread

I just bought mine and I have to say, it's an amazing synth. Definitely a sleeper that no one seems to know or care about in the synth world. It's got a ton of features, most of which I don't even use, but the best part is all the knobs and sliders are right there on the front panel for you. You don...

Re: Good master compressor for my setup...

Vintage Ashly and Orban compressors are good for the money, but probably cost a bit more than $200 now. You can pick up an Ashly SC-50 for $150-300. It's a mono compressor though, if that matters. The stereo version I had and sold a few years back for $600. They are great compressors though and wort...

Re: My music (soundtrack/sci-fi/zombie/?)

I don't hear music that makes me want to comment on it too often, but this stuff is great! I love the melody, chords, drums, lead sounds, everything about "only us left now". It sounds like a Twin Peaks soundtrack piece, and that's a great thing. "Get to the truck" is great too. I love the grooves, ...

Wow. Good call!! I went into the midi sync menu and turned it off, and now the arpeggiator works fine. Sweet. I thought it was broken! Thanks for the help!

Help! The arpeggiator on my OB-12 doesn't work?

Does anyone have any experience with this synth and it's arpeggiator? I can't get it to work. When I turn it on it lights up as "on", but outputs no sound when I play a chord. I'm thinking there must be some hidden setting in some menu somewhere that the previous owner disabled the arpeggiator or so...

Re: Modern Arp Odyssey equivalent?

I just replaced my Arp Odyssey with an Oberheim OB-12 and I'm having good results. The OB-12 has 2 oscillators, ring mod, sample and hold, and can generally do everything an Odyssey can and then some. I've made similar sounding patches on the OB-12 that sounds like they could have come from an Odyss...
